Job Description
Performs a variety of tasks in the maintenance and operation of grounds, open spaces, parks, and related facilities. The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position. Care for diverse plantings of trees, shrubs, vines, perennials, grasses, and bulbs; Maintains creek banks, ground cover areas, flowerbeds, tennis courts and playgrounds; Perform seasonal landscape work including planting, pruning, clean-up, bulb planting, dividing and transplanting, leaf removal; Actively promote and contribute to the Town's sustainability initiatives in landscape and park management; Assist with special programs, as needed; Assist with training and support of contractors and seasonal gardeners; Document, report, and catalog plant-related information; Scout for pests and disease; General clean-up of garden beds and paths, clean-up litter; Assists in the seasonal preparation and maintenance of the Town's swimming pool; Stage equipment, supplies, and materials for daily horticulture operations; Hand-water and monitor irrigation of plantings, especially during time of establishment and drought; Maintain tools and equipment; Participates in ice and snow removal. Performs minor maintenance of park structures such as litter baskets, benches, etc. by performing custodial maintenance, painting, plumbing, carpentry and other trades work. Performs other duties as required Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment. Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule; ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of periods of time, and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions; ability to communicate orally and in writing; ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely; ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions; ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public. Basic understanding of landscape technology procedures. Minimum Education, Experience and Certification One year experience as a landscape gardener; Valid state driver's license.
