Job Description

Summary The Streets Maintenance Worker is responsible for the performance of a variety of manual tasks following routine procedures. Responsibilities include the operation of light to heavy duty equipment used in construction, repair and maintenance of city streets, parks and other facilities to include the street sweeper, backhoe, heavy roller, dump truck, water truck, loader, motor grader, herbicide truck, tractor shredders, various mowing equipment and any other equipment as required. Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned) Operates light to heavy duty equipment; Assists in the installation and maintenance of streets, alleys, drainage ditches, city parks and other facilities; Install traffic control devices (signs and pavement markings); Direct traffic following safety protocol in construction zones; Crack seals city streets; Repair of fences, gates, walls and concrete sidewalks; Maintains City common areas, street right-of-ways and drainage right-of-ways with mowers, tractor shredders, and weed eaters. Trims trees, bushes, hedges and walkways; Water lawns, shrubs, and trees; Preventive maintenance routinely performed on vehicles and equipment; report any repairs necessary to vehicle maintenance; Applies pesticides on a scheduled basis to control pests around all City Facilities, Parks and Right-of-ways; Maintains a daily log recording all chemicals utilized, location of use and all relevant information; Maintains an inventory of chemicals and other needed supplies; Maintain license's by keeping current with necessary CEU's (Continuing Education Units); Completes work orders on daily basis; Rotating "On Call" standby duty required for weekend coverage of City parks and streets and also for emergency conditions; Attendance is an essential duty of this position; Performs other necessary duties and fulfills responsibilities as required by the General Services Superintendent and the Director of Public Works.
