25 hours per weekGENERAL PURPOSE
Performs a variety of entry-level duties related to the construction, installation, and maintenance of athletic facilities, performs skilled work pertaining to sports field.SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general to close supervision of the Recreation Manger.SUPERVISION EXERCISED
None essential functions Performs the preparation of athletic fields for play, duties include painting lines, dragging and raking in-fields, chalking infields, preparing pitching mounds and home plate areas, and maintaining skinned areas to the appropriate firmness. Repairs and renovates turf areas when damaged. Assist in the repair and maintenance of equipment, vehicles, and tools. Maintains all city recreation fields. Has primary responsibility for the maintenance and accountability of departmental equipment. Cleaning of restrooms and emptying trash. Perform other duties as assignedMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Graduation from high school or G.E.D.; AND Sufficient experience to demonstrate the ability to perform essential function; OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Some knowledge of horticulture, planting, cultivating, pruning, and general care for plant, trees, shrubs and flowers; application of pesticides, fertilization, and soil amendments; drainage control, sprinkler system operation and maintenance, including pumps, several types of heads, automatic controllers and weather stations; maintenance of all grounds keeping equipment; reading of landscape drawings and blue prints, installation of parks. Skill in the operation and use of office machines and equipment such as, computer, 10-key, fax, printer, copy machine and telephone. Also requires frequent use of athletic field equipment. Ability to work weekends and holidays when needed; maintain safe working conditions; respond effectively and make responsible decisions in emergency or unusual situations; follow written and oral instructions; to establish and maintain good working relationships with employee's other supervisors and the public; perform manual or strenuous physical labor on a limited basis; communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.Special Qualifications:
Must be at least 16 years old.Work Environment:
Work involves walking, talking, hearing, using hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reaching with hands and arms. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee may be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 80 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet while in the office and moderately loud when in the field. Work may periodically require the employee to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl. The employee may be required to work in outside weather conditions, in wet and/or humid conditions, in high, precarious places, near moving mechanical parts, near fumes, airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals, or near risk of electrical shock and/or vibration.Benefits
