Job Description
The City of Norfolk's Department of Utilities is currently seeking a Maintenance Worker I for the Water Production Division. The Maintenance Worker I will be responsible for assisting with the repair and maintenance of the Water Production system. Essential functions include, but are not limited to: Digs and refills trenches and other excavations, cuts asphalt and concrete, maintains lawns. Loads and unloads, lifts and carries tools (up to 75 pounds), equipment and chemicals. Makes minor repairs to water production systems. Transports material and personnel to worksites. Climbs stairs and ladders, bends, stoops, pushes,pulls, lifts and carries up to 75 pounds, may stand for more than 8 hours. Requires knowledge of construction equipment, materials and work tasks. Requires ability to follow oral and written instruction. Work requires the ability to read and understand written instructions, to understand simple processes and the routine operation of machines. Level of knowledge equivalent to less than high school or equivalency. No experience required.
