Job Description

GENERAL DEFINITION
Duties include performing trail maintenance, trail development, blueway maintenance, setting up and taking down for special events, mowing and trimming grass, overseeing part-time and seasonal maintenance workers as well as volunteers and performing other related work as required.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Outdoor Recreation Manager or designee.
TYPICAL TASKS
Makes improvements to existing trail networks and constructs new trails; Inspects and maintains existing trails and associated amenities to insure safe public use; Performs necessary maintenance of Franklin County's Blueways; Provides support for special events including site preparation, set-up, take-down, and repair; Operates trucks and motorized equipment; Completes routine maintenance and repairs to county owned vehicles, motorized equipment, power tools, and other equipment; Works closely with and maintains outstanding relationships with partnered organizations; Supervises volunteers and facilitates workdays; Performs other duties as assigned;
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
General knowledge of techniques and practices of trails, grounds, and equipment maintenance. Skilled in use of hand and power tools and trails/grounds maintenance equipment. Ability to organize and keep inventory. Ability to supervise and work with people of various ages and interests. General knowledge of various activities related to County operations. Ability to work in various weather conditions.
TRAINING, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or general education degree (GED) and one to three years related experience in trails, grounds, and equipment maintenance.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS AND RELATED OBLIGATIONS
The successful applicant will possess and maintain a valid Virginia Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Applicant must have and maintain a driving record acceptable to Franklin County and its insurance carrier(s). May be required to obtain certifications according to industry standards and requirements.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Frequent walking and occasionally over rough or uneven terrains. Lifting and carrying objects weighing 15-50 pounds, with occasional lifting of items weighing over 100 pounds. Climbing ladders, stooping and crawling in confined spaces, digging, raking, and sawing. Frequent operation of vehicles. Requires manipulative and hand-eye coordination skills.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Exposes employee to potentially minor injuries and adverse weather conditions. Regular contact is made with individuals from other internal organizational units and with the general public.
Pay:
$32,216.00 - $41,881.00 per year
