The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Northern Region Highways & Aviation, is looking for a Maintenance & Operations Manager,
to help us Keep Alaska Moving!
What you will be doing:
As a key member of the Northern Region Maintenance & Operations leadership team, this position serves as the primary operational support and coordination lead for seven district superintendents and plays a critical role in the oversight of regional highway and airport maintenance operations, capital and operating budgets, special projects, and other operational initiatives. The position also provides leadership and coordination during emergency events and may be required to support incident response activities in both field and emergency operations center environments.
The incumbent directly supervises Maintenance and Operations Program Coordinator, Stock and Parts personnel, and serves as the primary operational support and coordination lead for seven district superintendents. Working under the direction of the M&O Chief, this position provides leadership, mentoring, training, and operational guidance to district superintendents, assists in resolving district-level issues, promotes consistency in regional practices, and serves as the primary point of coordination for operational matters requiring regional support. This position also assumes the role in acting status of the M&O Chief position when both M&O Chief and Regional M&O Engineer are absent.

This position is located in Fairbanks, AK. The M&O environment is dynamic, with changing conditions, operational priorities, and occasional emergency events requiring flexibility and sound decision-making. Success in this position comes from working collaboratively with district personnel, regional staff, and departmental resources to address challenges and keep Alaska's transportation system operating safely and efficiently. Regular travel throughout Northern Region is expected to build relationships with staff and develop a firsthand understanding of the facilities, communities, and transportation networks that support informed operational decisions.

Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college in engineering, construction management, business administration, or a closely related field.
AND
Three years of experience with responsibility for the operation, maintenance, design, or construction, of highways, streets, utilities, or airports.
Substitution:
Additional qualifying experience may substitute for the required bachelor's degree (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equals one month of work experience).
Special Note:
The required experience includes work such as "Equipment Operator - Lead/Journey 3", Engineer/Architect 1, Engineering Assistant 3, or Maintenance and Operations Superintendent with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer.
