Job Description
Located approximately 26 miles from the City of Fairbanks, Fort Knox is a centre of excellence for the Company as one of the few cold weather heap leach facilities in the world. Fort Knox celebrated its 25-year anniversary in 2021, and has produced over 8.5 million ounces since it began operation. In 2020, Kinross acquired Manh Choh - a project expected to commence production in 2024 and process ore at Fort Knox. Fort Knox prioritizes being a strong contributor to the State and local communities, and since 2001, has helped support more than 300 community partners and has contributed more than US$25 million to the Alaska Mental Health Trust. Job Description Meet production goals by coordinating the activities of the mill, heap leach, and pond operations to maximize process efficiencies and gold recovery in a safety-oriented workplace. Job Responsibilities 1. Establish maintenance priorities, and work with the Mill Operations group to meet production needs. 2. Supervise multi-craft supervisors and maintain acceptable equipment availabilities in a safe manner to meet the companys production goals. 3. Manage and evaluate the job performance of the departments supervisors concerning safety, production, mechanical / electrical training and development, and supervisory skills. 4. Review performance evaluations, recommend promotions, and carry out disciplinary actions, in conjunction with Human Resources as needed. 5. Supervise process modifications to increase gold recovery and plant availability, decrease costs, and improve safety and health aspects of the mill. 6. Track monthly cost 7. Keep records concerning all facets of mill maintenance including safety meetings, attendance, vacation, scheduling, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, and accidents. 8. Work with safety and environmental personnel to monitor work areas and maintain and improve the health and safety of the mine work environment. 9. Know all phases of mill equipment including critical components and change-out hours. 10. Prepare monthly summaries of maintenance activities and individual reports as required. 11. Participate in the design and construction of plant expansions or modifications. 12. Consistent exercise of discretion and judgment in job performance. 13. Review documentation of accidents, injuries, and equipment damage and recommend prevention strategies as necessary. 14. Punctuality and regular attendance is required. 15. Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management. 16. Compliance with all company policies and procedures, including, but not limited to, safety, confidentiality, and environmental policies. 17. Possession of a valid drivers license issued by the state. 18. Work safely in all areas, identify potential safety hazards, and work with management to correct hazards. 19. Work without significant risk of harm to self and others. 20. Perform other duties as required. Education and Experience Education 1. High school diploma or equivalent required. Employee must have sufficient education to read and write instructions, perform simple mathematical calculations, and keep records. 2. BS degree in mechanical or electrical engineering is preferred. Experience 1.Previous experience in maintenance planning and frontline supervision required. Skills 1.Detailed knowledge of maintenance practices along with an understanding of the milling and gold recovery processes. 2.Complete understanding of mill and maintenance operations. 3.Good working knowledge and skill with a P.C. utilizing word processing and spreadsheet programs. 4.Strong verbal, written, analytical, and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management. 5.Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently, with others in a team environment, and also as a member of the management team. 6.May work holidays, shift work, and weekends as required Reporting Relationships This role reports to the Mill Manager.
