We are seeking a highly skilled Operations & Maintenance Manager to lead our metal recycling facility in Phenix City. In this role, you will support the General Manager and oversee the daily operations, maintenance, and safety of our people and equipment at our scrap metal shredder and downstream plant. The ideal candidate brings a thorough mechanical & engineering education & background and proven leadership skills to drive safety, production efficiency, and equipment reliability. Require 3 to 5+ years of progressive management experience in heavy industrial operations (e.g., scrap metal recycling, manufacturing, mining, foundry, smelters, or industrial and/or manufacturing facilities). Proficiency with industrial computers, electrical, hydraulic. Direct technical expertise in operating and repairing industrial equipment We are looking for previous experience and an engineering background (industrial Engineering or Mechanical Engineering) with strong academic emphasis in: Mechanical/Maintenance/Milling/Production This position will work inside and outside in varying weather conditions, and SA Recycling strictly adheres to all Metals Recycling Business Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Shredder Operation:
Safely directly overseeing the maintenance of our industrial auto shredder while adjusting to changing operational needs
Team Manager:
Oversee and coordinate the activities of the recycling yard labor force
System Monitoring:
Track critical gauge readings (including rotor RPM, bearing temperatures, and liquid rheostat temperature) to prevent equipment damage
Component Inspections:
Conduct daily physical examinations of critical shredder components to ensure operational readiness
Troubleshooting:
Diagnose and resolve issues across complex mechanical, electrical, and control systems
Emergency Response:
Recognize hazardous or emergency situations immediately and execute proper safety protocols
Adaptive Workflow:
Adjust daily priorities quickly as changing yard circumstances dictate
Qualifications & Technical Requirements:
Education:
Engineering background with a strong academic emphasis in:
Mechanical/Maintenance/Production Control Systems:
Ability to operate, read, and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
System Expertise:
Proven experience troubleshooting the following critical industrial systems: 5000 HP Motors, Liquid Rheostats and High & Medium Voltage Switch gear, Transformers, and Breaker, Hydraulic Power Units (HPUs)
Conveyor Systems:
Belts, Motors, Gear Boxes, Pulleys and Idlers Magnets, Eddy Currents, Air Systems Mechanical/Maintenance/Production Control Systems:
Ability to operate, read, and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
System Expertise:
Proven experience troubleshooting the following critical industrial systems: 5000 HP Motors, Liquid Rheostats and High & Medium Voltage Switch gear, Transformers, and Breaker, Hydraulic Power Units (HPUs)

Exceptional communication skills and a proven track record of maintaining cooperative working relationships. Vocational/Technical Engineering degree highly desired.
