Job Description

Position Summary The Maintenance Lead is an hourly lead-level position that provides day-to-day direction, coordination, guidance, and support for the industrial maintenance team in a regulated nutraceutical manufacturing environment. This role helps direct the daily work of senior maintenance technicians, maintenance technicians, and maintenance apprentices to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with production, quality, and food safety requirements. The Maintenance Lead assists with assigning priorities, supporting technicians, monitoring work progress, escalating issues, and reinforcing standards. While technical knowledge is required, the primary focus of this role is peer leadership, work direction, communication, and helping the team execute maintenance activities effectively. Key Responsibilities Serve as the hourly maintenance lead for the shift or assigned area, directing senior maintenance technicians, maintenance technicians, and apprentices in daily maintenance activities to support production uptime, equipment reliability, food safety, and operational priorities. Direct and help prioritize work orders, emergency repairs, preventive maintenance tasks, and project-related assignments as directed by maintenance management. Provide peer leadership, coaching, and technical guidance to senior maintenance technicians, maintenance technicians, and apprentices while promoting safe work practices, teamwork, and accountability. Communicate with production, quality, sanitation, engineering, and maintenance management to help align maintenance priorities with daily business needs. Monitor work progress, communicate schedule changes, escalate barriers, and help ensure repairs and preventive maintenance are completed on time. Assist with technician and apprentice training, cross-training, onboarding, and skill development by sharing knowledge, reinforcing standard work practices, and helping develop team capability. Participate in root-cause discussions for recurring equipment issues and help identify practical corrective actions. Promote proper use of the CMMS, accurate work order documentation, parts usage tracking, and maintenance history records. Help coordinate maintenance support for equipment setup, changeovers, sanitation readiness, start-ups, shutdowns, installations, upgrades, and special projects. Reinforce compliance with food safety, cGMP, allergen control, sanitation, safety, lockout/tagout, and documentation requirements. Other duties as assigned by management
Qualifications Required:
5+ years of industrial maintenance experience, including demonstrated lead-person, shift lead, senior technician, or team coordination experience directing or guiding other maintenance personnel. Strong working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automated production equipment sufficient to guide technicians and support maintenance decisions. Ability to lead by example, communicate clearly, direct daily work, support priorities, resolve routine issues, and reinforce team accountability in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Experience using CMMS systems to review, assign, document, and follow up on maintenance work. Knowledge of food safety, cGMP, allergen control, sanitation, and documentation requirements in nutraceutical, dietary supplement, food, or pharmaceutical manufacturing environments. Familiarity with nutraceutical or similar regulated-process equipment such as blenders, mills, sifters, tablet presses, capsule fillers, coating equipment, fillers, cappers, labelers, conveyors, metal detectors, checkweighers, and automated packaging systems.
Preferred:
Technical certificate, associate degree, or equivalent combination of maintenance experience and leadership development. Prior experience as a maintenance lead, senior technician, shift lead, or lead-person responsible for directing or coordinating daily maintenance work for technicians or apprentices. Experience supporting packaging automation, inspection systems, dust collection systems, powder transfer systems, calibration practices, or other regulated manufacturing processes. Lean, TPM, reliability, or continuous improvement experience. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to coach, influence, and support technicians across shifts or departments. Physical Requirements Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in varying environmental conditions.
