POSITION SUMMARY
: The Facilities & Maintenance Manager leads the team responsible for maintaining and improving the physical infrastructure across Mount Madonna Center's 380-acre campus of residences, retreat facilities, and sacred spaces. This role oversees a multi-trade maintenance team (carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, vehicle mechanics, and general maintenance support) and coordinates preventive maintenance, capital projects, and emergency repairs. Success in this role requires strong leadership and organizational skills, hands-on technical knowledge across multiple trades, and the ability to plan and prioritize work across a complex campus with aging, varied, and custom infrastructure. The ideal candidate is a working manager who can both direct a team and step in on technical work as needed, values stewardship of shared resources, and thrives in a mission-driven, service-oriented community environment.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
: Supervise, schedule, and mentor the Facilities & Maintenance team, including trades staff (carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry) and general maintenance support and volunteers Plan, prioritize, and assign daily, weekly, and long-term maintenance work across the campus Oversee preventive maintenance programs for buildings, grounds, wells, septic systems, irrigation, and vehicles Manage facilities capital projects from scoping through completion, including contractor and vendor coordination Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and mechanical issues, and perform or assist with hands-on repairs as needed Ensure code-conscious, safe, and reliable operation of all campus systems, including electrical systems Maintain compliance with applicable safety, building, and electrical codes, and coordinate inspections as needed Manage the facilities budget, track expenses, and source materials and outside contractors as needed Partner with department leaders across campus to coordinate facilities needs for programs, retreats, and events Maintain accurate records of maintenance work, inspections, and equipment and systems documentation Respond to and coordinate emergency repairs, including after-hours as needed Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
: Demonstrated experience leading or supervising a maintenance or facilities team Broad hands-on experience across multiple trades (electrical, plumbing, carpentry, general building maintenance) Active electrical license (Journeyman or Master Electrician) strongly preferred, or willingness to work toward one Experience managing capital projects, contractors, and vendor relationships Strong organizational and planning skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities across a large campus Working knowledge of jobsite safety protocols and applicable building and electrical codes Experience with wells, septic, or off-grid/self-sufficient water systems a plus Budget management experience a plus Clear and effective communication, with strong interpersonal and team leadership skills
Physical Requirements:
Reach, bend, stoop, and frequently lift up to 40 pounds safely and without exertion Possess finger and hand dexterity for using small tools and equipment Ability to climb ladders and work at heights, and to work outdoors in varying weather conditions Use protective hand and face coverings and/or masks throughout an entire shift, when necessary
RESIDENCY AVAILABLE
: This position offers the opportunity to reside in a Yoga community in beautiful natural surroundings. Residency includes housing, meals, and a modest monthly activity fee based on the total number of hours contributed. Those interested in joining our multigenerational residential community would be open to living in an intentional yoga community and engaging with others in a positive way. We ask everyone to abide by the vegetarian guidelines while on the property. More details about the residential agreement will be provided during the interview. While we prefer this staff member be residential, the role may be available for daily commute.
