Commercial Pay:
$31.25-$33.65 per hour, depending on experience
Location:
Denver Metro — splitting time across two commercial properties (80229 and 80237), with regular travel between sites (~60%) The Opportunity Commercial tenants notice the building the moment something goes wrong — the moment they don't notice it is when you've done your job right. This role is the engineering backbone for two of our Denver-area commercial properties, keeping mechanical systems, common areas, and building exteriors running at a standard tenants can build their business on. This is a lead role for someone who's as comfortable troubleshooting an HVAC fault or a lighting issue as they are training up the next Building Engineer on the team. You'll split your time between two sites in the Denver metro, which means variety, autonomy, and the trust that comes with being the go-to expert wherever you're needed that day. On the commercial side, that means treating every building system as mission-critical to the tenants who depend on it — and every engineer as someone tenants and ownership alike can rely on. We're looking for an experienced, take-charge Lead Building Engineer to set the standard across our commercial portfolio and mentor the staff who support it. Core Mission Serve as the senior hands-on engineer across two Denver-area commercial properties — leading day-to-day building operations and maintenance staff, resolving tenant issues quickly and professionally, and ensuring every system in the portfolio runs safely and reliably. You're the primary point of contact when something breaks, and the reason it rarely does. Essential Responsibilities Leadership & Team Oversight Serve as the primary point of contact for tenant work order escalations, ensuring timely and professional resolution Oversee the professional appearance, conduct, and performance of service, custodial, and grounds personnel, holding a consistent standard across the team Serve as a technical resource and mentor to other Building Engineers and maintenance staff, guiding complex repairs and best practices Organize and help manage the on-call emergency schedule for evenings, weekends, and holiday coverage Conduct monthly maintenance shop and inventory inspections with the Property Manager to verify supply levels and safety compliance Building Systems & Equipment Ensure building equipment and mechanical systems are in good condition through regular testing and inspection Troubleshoot and resolve issues with lighting, HVAC systems, and plumbing Assist in troubleshooting and repair of mechanical, carpentry, and electrical problems Assist in overseeing construction, tenant improvement, and repair work Site Documentation & Safety Create and maintain an up-to-date site survey identifying main water, electric, and gas shutoffs, sewer cleanouts and lines, manholes, fire hydrants, and alarm locations Ensure unsafe conditions are corrected in a timely manner Learn and ensure compliance with all company, local, state, and federal safety rules Comply with health and safety regulations, including proper removal of waste from facilities Vendor & Inventory Management Coordinate and schedule delivery and pickup of parts and supplies for efficient inventory turnover Maintain an up-to-date inventory of equipment and supplies Generate clear written and verbal reports for property management and ownership Property Condition & Tenant Support Maintain meticulous curb appeal across building exteriors, the management office, parking lots/garage, and common areas Remove trash from common areas and the property perimeter daily and prepare property trash for pick-up Assist in the cleaning and preparation of vacant tenant suites Deliver communication documentation to tenants and respond to emergency maintenance requests promptly and professionally Report maintenance concerns for common areas to the Property Manager Represent the management team professionally at all times, on and off property
Preferred Qualifications Commercial Experience:
Background in commercial (not residential) building engineering — office, retail, or mixed-use preferred
Leadership Experience:
Prior experience overseeing or mentoring Building Engineers or maintenance/grounds staff
Systems Knowledge:
Strong working knowledge of building infrastructure systems — main utility shutoffs, sewer lines, and fire alarm systems — sufficient to maintain accurate site documentation
Vendor Coordination:
Strong supply-chain and vendor-coordination skills for scheduling deliveries and managing inventory
Multi-Site Agility:
Comfortable managing shifting priorities across two properties and staying organized while traveling between sites Requirements 3+ years of Building Engineer or related commercial maintenance experience, including experience overseeing or mentoring maintenance staff Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and life-safety systems sufficient to train and guide others Ability to interpret maintenance instructions, manuals, safety rules, and other documents Ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy regarding building tenants Ability to operate a vehicle to procure parts and equipment, including occasional use of a personal vehicle, for regular travel between the 80229 and 80237 properties Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and time management skills High school diploma or GED Physical Requirements & Work Environment This is a largely mobile role requiring frequent sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and grasping, along with frequent climbing and working from a ladder. Employees are regularly required to lift and carry up to 100 pounds. The role has regular exposure to indoor and outdoor climates and routine exposure to mechanical, electrical, and other hazardous equipment.
