Job Description

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and overseeing all maintenance activities within the shipyard to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of facilities, equipment, machinery, and support systems. This role manages preventative and corrective maintenance programs, supervises maintenance personnel, coordinates contractors, and ensures compliance with company policies, environmental regulations, and safety standards. Communicate and coordinate with vendors, suppliers, and service providers to procure parts, equipment, and maintenance services, ensuring timely delivery and cost-effective solutions. Manage and track maintenance priorities to ensure critical equipment, facility repairs, and operational issues are addressed in a timely manner. Prepare, submit, and track purchase requisitions for maintenance materials, equipment, tools, replacement parts, and contracted services to support shipyard operations and maintenance activities. Order, track, and maintain inventory of parts, materials, tools, and equipment required to support maintenance and shipyard operations. Lead and supervise the shipyard maintenance team, including mechanics, electricians, facilities technicians, and contractors. Develop and implement preventative and predictive maintenance programs for shipyard equipment and infrastructure. Oversee maintenance and repair of cranes, forklifts, welding equipment, air compressors, generators, hydraulic systems, marine travel lifts, and other shipyard equipment. Manage maintenance activities for buildings, docks, piers, utilities, and support facilities. Coordinate emergency repairs and minimize downtime of critical equipment and operations. Maintain maintenance schedules, work orders, equipment records, and asset management systems. Monitor equipment performance and recommend upgrades, replacements, or capital improvements. Manage department budgets, maintenance expenditures, and inventory of parts, tools, and supplies. Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, environmental requirements, and company safety policies. Conduct regular inspections of facilities and equipment to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns. Coordinate with production, operations, and project management teams to support vessel construction and repair schedules. Manage vendor relationships and oversee third-party maintenance contractors. Develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment reliability and operational efficiency. Train, mentor, and evaluate maintenance personnel. Competency Statement(s) High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, Facilities Management, or related field preferred. Minimum 5 years of maintenance management or supervisory experience in a shipyard, manufacturing, heavy industrial, or marine environment. Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and facility maintenance systems. Experience maintaining heavy equipment, cranes, forklifts, and industrial machinery. Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety management practices. Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) preferred. Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced production environment. Proficient with Microsoft Office and maintenance reporting systems.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Basic understanding of or ability to quickly learn company product codes and terminology. Thorough understanding of warehouse policies and procedures. Good analytical skills and ability to make sound judgments relative to inventory.
Education:
Experience Shipbuilding or ship repair experience. Experience with marine fabrication equipment and waterfront facilities. Knowledge of DoD, USCG, or commercial vessel construction environments. Experience managing maintenance budgets and capital improvement projects. At least two years of purchasing experience required.
