Job Description

"Supervising Quality Grounds Care Every Day" The Department of Parks & Recreation (DPR) , Park Maintenance and Recreation Services Division, is seeking to fill a vacant Park Grounds Maintenance Supervisor position located in District IV ( Windward & North O'ahu ) . Under the supervision of the Park Grounds Maintenance Superintendent, this position supervises the care, maintenance and beautification of a large number of parks, park buildings, playgrounds, and other recreational areas and facilities in an assigned geographical district. What You Will Do Conduct regular inspections of work assignments and upon completion, check for compliance with performance requirements. Inspect buildings, equipment, and grounds for necessary repairs or improvement and initiate work orders as needed. Plan and make recommendations for improving existing facilities. Plan and make work assignments to subordinate grounds maintenance personnel. Schedule projects and duty assignments. Maintain time and attendance records for employees. Train and supervise grounds maintenance personnel in performance of their duties. Discipline and recommend disciplinary action as necessary. Operate a ¼ ton pick-up truck to deliver supplies and check on employees at their assigned parks. Prepare and submit reports including time sheets, absences, leaves, employee's evaluations, and others. Perform other related duties as assigned. Special Work Requirements May be required to work weekends, nights, holidays and special events. Will serve as Disaster Response worker during declared emergencies. EDUCATION REQUIREMENT
: Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
: Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to show competence in the care, maintenance and beautification of grounds and landscaped areas, which must have included two years of supervisor experience.
Applicable Skills Needed Knowledge of:
the principles and practices of supervision; planting, cultivation, pruning and general care of plants, trees, and lawns; and control and operation and maintenance of grounds maintenance equipment and tools.
Ability to:
plan assignments, direct, review and inspect the work of others; plan, lay out and develop landscaped areas; select proper plants for specific usage and conditions; prepare estimates of cost, and prepare requisitions for materials, tools and equipment needed for maintenance work; keep records and prepare reports and establish and maintain effective work relationships with subordinates and the general public.
LICENSE REQUIREMENT
: Possession of a valid Hawaii State driver's license (Type 3), prior to appointment.
