Reporting to the EHS & Maintenance Facilities Manager, the Lead Maintenance Mechanic plays a key role in supporting the maintenance team by providing advanced mechanical expertise, coordinating daily maintenance activities, and ensuring equipment reliability. This position serves as the go-to resource for complex troubleshooting, prioritization of work orders, and mentorship of less experienced mechanics.
Work Schedule:
1st Shift (4:00am - 12:30pm). This position is eligible for overtime with flexibility required to work some weekends required.Roles & Responsibilities:
Perform advanced troubleshooting and repairs on mechanical systems, equipment and machinery; including, compressors, conveyors, and motors while also diagnosing and troubleshooting electrical issues, PLC input/output faults, sensors, and control circuits Lead by example in following all safety procedures and maintenance best practices Serves as technical expert for diagnosing complex mechanical issues and recommending corrective actions Coordinate and prioritize daily work orders with the maintenance team to ensure efficient task completion Assist in planning and executing preventive and predictive maintenance schedules Support the documentation and continuous improvement of maintenance procedures Mentor and train new mechanics on proper repair techniques and equipment care Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment history, and parts usage in our CMMS Assist in the development and ensure compliance with lockout/tagout protocols and company policies Support Management with root cause analysis of equipment failure and contribute to lessons learned and corrective action plans Collaborate with production teams to support machine setup, changeovers, and equipment optimization Identify recurring issues and suggest improvements to reduce breakdowns and increase equipment reliability Interface with production, vendors, contractors for parts, repairs and specialized services when neededQualifications:
Required:
High School Diploma of GED Preferred:
Two years' college or equivalent work experience 5+ years of industry experience in a manufacturing environment Strong understanding of mechanical systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, and fabrication Able to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and technical manuals Familiarity with CMMS software and maintenance tracking Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and sense of urgency Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred Forklift Certified Proficient in Microsoft Office products; including,Word, Excel and Outlook Physical Requirements:
Work from ladders and scaffolds at heights up to 30 feet Lifting to 50 pounds Perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, standing, and walking significant distances Visual ability (uncorrected or corrected) to observe and detect signs of dangerous obstacles at distances of 30 yards and to verify written information at a close range Work may be performed within extreme temperature ranges Work may require the use of hand and power toolsLicenses/Certifications:
Valid Illinois Driver's License required for occasional pick up of parts and materialsHourly Pay Range:
