Position Summary:
The Maintenance Lead is responsible for overseeing daily maintenance operations, coordinating maintenance activities, and supporting the maintenance team to ensure equipment reliability, safety, and operational efficiency. This position provides leadership and technical support for troubleshooting, repair, preventative maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives within the manufacturing facility. The Maintenance Lead works closely with Production and other departments to minimize downtime, improve equipment performance, and maintain a safe and productive work environment in a fast-paced food manufacturing operation.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and support maintenance technicians in daily repair, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance activities. Coordinate maintenance priorities and assign work orders to ensure timely completion of tasks. Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and production equipment issues. Monitor equipment performance and identify opportunities to reduce downtime and improve operational efficiency. Support installation, setup, modification, and improvement of manufacturing equipment and facility systems. Ensure preventative maintenance tasks are completed accurately and on schedule. Assist in maintaining maintenance inventory, spare parts, tools, and supplies. Respond to emergency maintenance issues and support rapid resolution to minimize production interruptions. Promote and enforce all safety procedures including OSHA standards and Lockout/Tagout requirements. Conduct regular inspections of equipment and facility conditions to identify safety or operational concerns. Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, repair logs, and parts usage documentation. Communicate effectively with Production, Quality, Sanitation, and management teams regarding equipment status and operational concerns. Assist with training, coaching, and development of maintenance employees as needed. Support continuous improvement initiatives related to equipment reliability, maintenance efficiency, and plant operations. Perform other duties as assigned to support facility and operational needs.
Requirements:
Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required. 3-5 years of industrial or manufacturing maintenance experience preferred. Previous leadership or lead maintenance experience preferred. Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical troubleshooting (up to 480V), hydraulics, pneumatics, and PLC systems. Ability to troubleshoot and repair motors, conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, sensors, valves, and control systems. Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of OSHA regulations, food manufacturing safety standards, and Lockout/Tagout procedures. Experience in food manufacturing or processing environments preferred. Basic computer skills and ability to complete maintenance documentation accurately. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work in confined spaces or elevated areas. Must be available for overtime, weekends, and emergency maintenance support as needed.
Work Environment:
This position is performed in a manufacturing environment where exposure to machinery, noise, dust, grease, and moving mechanical parts is expected. Use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is required.
