Lead Maintenance Technician

Lead Maintenance Mechanic - Food Manufacturing Niles, IL 1st, 2nd and 3rd Shifts Available $32 - $49.00/hr We are seeking a Lead Maintenance Mechanic to support a high-speed food manufacturing facility. This role will focus on troubleshooting, repair, preventative maintenance, equipment reliability, and leadership responsibilities across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control systems. The ideal candidate will have strong industrial maintenance experience within food manufacturing and the ability to lead and mentor maintenance technicians on shift.

Key Responsibilities:

Troubleshoot, repair, adjust, and replace industrial production equipment and facility systems Perform preventative maintenance, emergency repairs, equipment rebuilds, and component replacements Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, plumbing, and relay logic systems Support troubleshooting of motors, drives, sensors, valves, pumps, conveyors, gearboxes, and PLC-controlled equipment Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, technical manuals, and equipment documentation Perform welding, fabrication, machining, and mechanical repairs as needed Maintain accurate maintenance documentation, work orders, parts usage, and downtime reporting Communicate equipment breakdown status and estimated repair timelines to production teams Support GMP, food safety, sanitation, and company safety initiatives across the facility Assist with training, mentoring, and onboarding maintenance technicians and operators Delegate maintenance work orders and ensure tasks are completed accurately and efficiently Support continuous improvement, preventative maintenance programs, and equipment reliability initiatives Maintain clean, organized maintenance shops and work areas

Requirements:

5+ years of industrial maintenance experience within manufacturing environments Minimum 2 years of experience within food manufacturing or food processing preferred Previous lead, trainer, or supervisory maintenance experience preferred Strong troubleshooting experience across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems Experience with motors, VFDs, relays, PLCs, sensors, drives, pumps, gearboxes, valves, and conveyors Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals Welding, fabrication, and machining experience preferred Experience using CMMS or maintenance work order systems preferred Ability to troubleshoot independently with minimal supervision Strong communication and leadership skills High school diploma or GED required Technical degree or maintenance training preferred If this sounds like a position for you, apply directly on Indeed, or for more details, you can call or email me.
