Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Fabricator/Shop Welder- Assistant to Shop Foreman who will serve as the right-hand support to our Shop Foreman. This position requires strong fabrication knowledge, leadership awareness, and the ability to work independently while supporting the overall workflow of the shop. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of experience in steel fabrication and welding, including joists, decking, handrails, stairs, platforms, and custom metal components. This individual will help maintain productivity, quality control, and safe work practices throughout the fabrication shop. Duties Assist the Shop Foreman with daily planning, workflow organization, and task delegation Fabricate steel components including joists, decking, handrails, stairs, guardrails, platforms, brackets, and structural assemblies Perform MIG, Stick, and Flux Core welding with high accuracy and consistent quality Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and weld symbols Cut, measure, grind, drill, and prep materials for fabrication Operate fabrication equipment such as band saws, ironworkers, plasma cutters, overhead cranes, and forklifts Ensure all welds and fabricated parts meet company and industry quality standards Assist with material inventory, shop organization, cleanup, and equipment maintenance Communicate job progress and needs to the Shop Foreman and project managers Follow all company safety guidelines and OSHA regulations Work 40+ hours per week; overtime and weekend work as needed Minimum Qualifications At least 5 years of welding and fabrication experience (more strongly preferred) Strong MIG and Stick welding skills; ability to pass a weld test Skilled in fabrication of joists, decking, handrails, stairs, and structural steel Ability to read blueprints and understand weld symbols Experience operating forklifts and shop equipment Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work with limited supervision Valid driver's license Preferred Qualifications 7-10+ years of professional fabrication experience Welding certifications (AWS, etc.) Previous lead or assistant-foreman experience Rigging and lifting knowledge Work Environment Shop-based role with occasional field support Frequent standing, lifting, bending, and use of tools/equipment Must be able to lift 50+ lbs. as needed
