Facilities Lead Maintenance Mechanic

- Days Provides hands-on support for preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on process and utility equipment in support of a multi-product, large-scale biologics manufacturing facility operating 24/7.
Shift:
Monday-Friday, 5:30 AM-2:00 PM. This role may require overtime and occasional flexibility in shift timing to support project demand, equipment startup, commissioning activities, construction walkdowns, and other business needs. These schedule adjustments are generally planned and communicated with notice whenever possible.Key Responsibilities Hands-on maintenance support:
Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on process and utility equipment to support safe, reliable manufacturing operations.Process equipment support:
Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain equipment such as bioreactors, centrifuges, purification skids, purification columns, glasswashers, and autoclaves.Utilities and facilities support:
Support equipment including HVAC air handlers, refrigeration systems, cold rooms, chillers, cooling towers, pumps and drives, electrical switchgear, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, and emergency generators.Project and startup support:
Support new equipment implementation, equipment startup, area and equipment commissioning, turnover activities, and field execution of project work.Construction walkdowns:
Participate in construction walkdowns, field verification, punch-list identification and follow-up to support readiness and turnover. Provide technical troubleshooting and support equipment-related investigations, including identification of issues, root cause analysis, and follow-up actions in partnership with cross-functional teams.Autonomous ownership of work:
Independently prioritize routine and emergent work, manage assigned responsibilities with limited oversight, and ensure timely follow-up and communication.Business continuity across shifts:
Maintain continuity of support across the weekday day shift through clear documentation, effective handoff practices, and coordination with operations, engineering, quality, and maintenance partners.Documentation and systems:
Complete required GxP/GMP documentation, work orders, logbooks, and maintenance records accurately and on time using a CMMS or similar system.Safety and compliance:
Follow site safety procedures including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), PPE requirements, hazard identification, and escalation of unsafe conditions. Minimum Qualifications 15+ years of experience with a High School diploma, technical school, certificate of completion at a 2-year technical school.Relevant experience:
5+ years of maintenance experience in plant equipment maintenance, utilities, facilities, or manufacturing support roles; experience in biotech, pharmaceutical, or other regulated manufacturing environments strongly preferred.Process and/or utility maintenance experience:
Hands-on experience troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining industrial process equipment and/or utility systems.Equipment knowledge:
Experience with manufacturing equipment such as bioreactors, centrifuges, purification skids, purification columns, glasswashers, and autoclaves, and/or utility systems such as HVAC, refrigeration, pumps, drives, and electrical distribution equipment.Technical documentation:
Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, drawings, equipment manuals, and technical documentation.Systems proficiency:
Experience using a CMMS or similar work order/documentation system and basic computer proficiency for email and electronic documentation.GMP/GxP execution:
Ability to complete required GMP/GxP documentation accurately and on time.Safety knowledge:
Demonstrated knowledge of safe work practices, including LOTO, hazard recognition, stop-work expectations, and timely escalation of safety concerns.Communication and teamwork:
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across operations, engineering, quality, and other cross-functional teams.Physical and environmental requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks such as climbing, bending, and extended standing; ability to work at heights, in mechanical rooms, outdoor conditions, and cleanroom spaces while wearing required PPE.Preferred Qualifications Commissioning and startup:
Experience supporting equipment commissioning, startup, qualification support, and turnover to operations in a regulated manufacturing environment.Project support:
Experience supporting capital projects, equipment installations, expansions, or facility improvements.Construction field support:
Experience performing construction walkdowns, field verification, punch-list development, and readiness support.Investigations and root cause analysis:
Experience supporting equipment-related investigations, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions. Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of autonomy, prioritize competing responsibilities, and maintain continuity of support across a weekday day shift schedule.Quality systems knowledge:
Experience with deviations, CAPA, and change control.Monitoring systems:
Familiarity with BMS/EMS systems.Advanced trade capability:
Strong expertise in one or more technical areas such as HVAC/refrigeration, electrical, or mechanical systems. 24/7 manufacturing support: Experience supporting equipment in a 24/7 manufacturing environment.
