Job Description
1st Assistant Superintendent

Experience Required
- Bachelors degree, Associates degree or equivalent from a four or two year college; 3-4 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Degree preference in agronomy, horticulture, plant science, or soil science.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to obtain a Maryland pesticide license within 6 months of employment.
- Work with the Superintendent to ensure the annual golf course maintenance budget and capital plans are maintained and followed.
- Supervise and assist maintenance staff in daily duties.
- Assist in planning, organizing, and directing maintenance and construction of putting greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and bunkers.
- Supervise planting and cultural practices for turf grasses, trees, and ornamental plants.
- Ensure construction equipment is properly maintained.
- Assist in procurement of supplies and materials and ensure costs remain within budgetary limitations.
- Keep records of annual maintenance activities and costs and assist with preparation of reports.
- Follow sound purchasing procedures utilizing preferred vendors when possible.
- Reconcile and provide timely coding of invoices, payroll, and other required documents.
- Coordinate snow removal depending upon facility location.
- Ensure all company policies and procedures are followed, including compliance with government regulations.
- Ensure associates obtain proper licenses needed to perform job tasks safely and within regulations and address environmental concerns.
- Manage department members including Mechanic, Environmental Technician, Equipment Operator, Foreman, Greenskeeper, and Irrigation Technician.
- Assure effective orientation and training for new associates and develop ongoing training programs.
- Monitor business volume forecast and plan accordingly in manpower, productivity, costs, and expenses.
- Incorporate safe work practices in job performance.
