Under direction, supervises maintenance electricians, apprentices, and electronic technicians in a geographic area. Work of the class involves directing the installing, servicing, and repairing electrical and electronic equipment, fixtures and systems including life safety systems. The employee also performs electrical work requiring an advanced knowledge of high amperage electrical systems, electrical motors, and other equipment. Work of this class involves responsibility for laying out work details, assigning duties and directing the work of skilled and semiskilled employees in a variety of electrical and electronic maintenance, repair, and installation activities. Nature of work requires frequent visits to facilities to diagnose major electrical and electronic problems and/or to inspect projects at various stages of completion. Employee also develops budgets, obtains price quotes, and recommends projects. Assignments in this class are made orally or through written work orders or memos and may include blueprints and electrical diagrams. The employee interacts with administrators and staff regarding services.
Physical Demands:
Ability to perform work requiring physical exertion and to carry out inspection activities.
Special Requirements:
Ability to respond to emergency calls at any time and to work overtime as required.
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of approved methods and practices in installing, maintaining, and repairing electric lighting and wiring systems, motors and small power generators, switches and control equipment, and other common electric appliances and equipment; considerable knowledge of electrical code requirements and approved safety standards as they relate to electric wiring and equipment; considerable knowledge of occupational hazards involved in working with high and low voltage lines and of necessary precautionary measures. Working knowledge of the electronics equipment and repair field. Ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of electricians and electronics technicians; ability to work from electrical diagrams and blueprints. Ability to work without diagrams and blueprints when necessary. Ability to maintain accurate records, including time and material costs. Ability to prepare budgets and locate sources of supply. Ability to communicate effectively with persons of diverse backgrounds. Ability to prepare written communications and documentation. Good communications skills. Excellent human relations skills. Skill in the use of tools, materials, and equipment of the electrical trade. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
Education Training Experience:
High School or GED diploma required. Associates degree preferred. Coursework or technical training or apprenticeship and considerable experience in the installation, repair, and maintenance of a wide variety of electrical fixtures, controls, and high amperage systems, including some experience in a lead or supervisory capacity. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
Certificate License:
Possession of a valid Maryland driver^s license.
