• Maintenance (Finishing) to support Finishing operations.

This role is responsible for leading maintenance crews, resolving equipment issues, and ensuring safe, reliable operation of mechanical systems. The position focuses on maintaining equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, and supporting production, quality, and planning through effective supervision, coordination, and execution of maintenance activities.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Safety & Work Environment Promote and enforce the U. S. Steel safety program, including proper housekeeping and safe work practices Ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with company procedures Conduct safety talks and address hazards promptly Maintenance Execution Lead mechanical maintenance activities that support safe, reliable Finishing and Galvanizing operations Ensure timely response to equipment breakdowns to minimize downtime and restore operations Oversee the inspection, repair, and maintenance of key equipment, including equipment such as Rolling stands and mill housings Rolls, bearings, and gearboxes Hydraulic and lubrication systems Coil handling equipment (reels, payoff units, conveyors) Prioritize emergency repairs and planned maintenance based on safety, equipment reliability, and production needs Team Leadership Supervise union maintenance employees and work closely with vendors and contractors Assign work, provide direction, and ensure jobs are completed safely and efficiently Encourage teamwork, accountability, and clear communication across shifts and departments Support training and development of employees through on-the-job coaching Planning & Coordination Coordinate with Operations and Planning to prioritize and schedule repairs, preventive maintenance, and other planned work Review work orders for clear scope, labor, materials, and safety requirements, and ensure completed work is properly documented Coordinate crew, contractor, tool, and critical spare-part needs to support efficient maintenance execution Communicate equipment status, schedule changes, and outstanding work across shifts and departments to maintain continuity Continuous Improvement Identify recurring equipment issues and work with teams to improve reliability Support efforts to reduce downtime and improve equipment performance Encourage ideas from team members to improve safety and efficiency Administrative Duties Complete shift reports and communicate equipment status during shift handoffs Track work completed and outstanding issues Support required reporting and documentation Schedule maintenance crews and manage staffing needs, including attendance, overtime, and shift coverage Monitor employee attendance, punctuality, and adherence to work schedules; address concerns promptly and consistently Hold employees accountable for safe work practices, job performance, quality, productivity, and completion of assigned work Administer company policies, the labor agreement, and applicable work rules fairly and consistently, including coaching and corrective action when necessary Maintain accurate employee, attendance, overtime, and performance records and complete required documentation in a timely manner Minimum Requirements High school diploma or GED Minimum 2 years of experience supervising maintenance crews in a manufacturing or industrial environment Working knowledge of mechanical systems and maintenance practices Ability to work rotating shifts, including extended hours, weekends, and holidays Preferred Qualifications Bachelor of Science or Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Manufacturing or similar degree program or equivalent years of demonstrated maintenance experience in a large industrial environment Experience in Finishing/Galvanizing or similar manufacturing environment Background in mechanical maintenance (millwright, mechanic, or similar) Experience working with unionized employees or similar leadership experience Familiarity with hydraulic systems, bearings, and rotating equipment Experience using maintenance management systems (e.g., work orders, scheduling tools)
