Job Description
Year Health, Vision, and Dental Insurance Life Insurance Paid Time Off Pension Plan Duties:
Oversees daily maintenance operations for primary and local roads in Berrien County. Supervises maintenance and construction crews performing pavement and shoulder repairs, drainage and visibility improvements, signage and pavement marking upkeep, sweeping, snow and ice control, gravel road work, and bridge, culvert, and guardrail maintenance, along with encroachment removal. Manages and evaluates staff performance; recommends staffing levels, hiring, discipline, and terminations to the Road Department Director. Participates in union contract negotiations and helps develop proposals. Develops and refines winter operations standards, including "sensible salting" practices, snow and ice response procedures, and evaluation of equipment and technologies such as automated vehicle locator systems, Maintenance Decision Support System (MDSS), and weather-based predictive tools. Prepares bid specifications for equipment and bulk materials (e.g., salt, sand, gravel). Coordinates with Financial Services to order and track materials, maintain inventory, and review and approve invoices and contracts. Works with the Road Department Director to determine necessary overtime for maintenance, garage, construction, and shop personnel. Bachelor's degree in Management or a closely related field, and five years of construction supervision experience; OR Associate degree in Construction Management or a closely related field and seven years of construction supervisory experience; OR High school diploma or equivalent and nine years of construction experience including increasing levels of responsibility within supervision.Special Requirements:
Must possess a valid driver's license, preferably a CDL with appropriate endorsement, at all times during employment. Subject to DOT required alcohol and drug testing for both cause and random testing. During adverse weather conditions, will be required to assess weather conditions and consult with the Road Department Director and Garage Foremen regarding the need to call in crews.Similar remote jobs
