Director of Maintenance Purpose:
To supervise and manage maintenance operations and building safety programs throughout the school system. The Director of Maintenance works with staff to ensure that the activities and work orders for the maintenance department are completed in a timely manner, cost effective, and properly executed. The director assists in implementing and monitoring comprehensive workplace safety training programs for county employees. This position reports directly to the Special Advisor for Facilities/Transportation/Operations.
Qualifications:
Associate's degree or bachelor's degree preferred. At least two years of experience in facility maintenance management A North Carolina State Electrical and/or HVAC, and/or Plumbing Contractor's License preferred.
Salary Range:
$5,8333.00 - $7,666.00 (Experience will be considered.) Essential Functions Plans, directs, and reviews and a daily basis the work of maintenance employees. Evaluates and supervises the performance of maintenance staff. Supports schools with custodial supplies and inventory. Supports schools with replacement of grounds equipment as determined by need. Assist with reviewing maintenance contracts for contractors. Ensures that all equipment (air conditioning, heating, plumbing, etc.) is operational. Responsible for and supervises electrical and energy maintenance systems. Plans and reviews fiscal matters related to plant operation Prepares and presents oral and written reports and maintenance and safety budget proposals. Directs the overall technical training activities for maintenance personnel. Seeks regular updates of new developments, regulations, policies, and procedures related to all maintenance functions mandated by federal, state, and local laws. Develops and implements a comprehensive maintenance and operations annual work plan. Monitors workplace accidents and maintains an incident reporting system. Formulates workplace safety committees with Safety Coordinators at each work site that are required to meet and discuss safety issues. Analyzes demographics of workplace accidents and devises training to eliminate major causes of accidents. Assists in developing district faculty plans. Monitors school compliance with recommendations made by official inspectors and prompt correction of discrepancies. Maintains records on all chemicals that have been disposed of and ensures that hazardous chemicals are properly stored. Attends Board of Education and other meetings as required. Other duties assigned by the supervisor or Superintendent.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the proper handling of hazardous materials. Considerable knowledge of materials, methods and equipment used in maintenance of schools and other school system buildings. Ability to prepare thorough and comprehensive budgets. Ability to establish and maintain an effective, collaborative work environment with employees and others. Working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and ordinances related to school buildings and safety. Ability to establish a training program for employees at all levels in the department. Knowledge of environmental regulations. Knowledge of current safety and security methods. Ability to plan, organize, monitor, and evaluate a comprehensive maintenance and safety plan. Ability to communicate with employees and others with oral and written communication.
