Description Hide Maintenance Supervisor
FUNCTION
Supports day‑to‑day operations of the Hide Maintenance Department , ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant functioning of all equipment and maintenance activities. Responsibilities include troubleshooting, installing new equipment, repairing existing systems, and maintaining overall operational reliability within the Hide area.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety & Compliance Ensures all company safety policies and procedures are followed in both direct and indirect areas of the Hide Department. Completes required daily safety documentation. Maintains good housekeeping and safe work practices. Maintenance Leadership Directs assigned employees performing approved maintenance work and production support within the Hide Department. Assigns mechanics at the start of and throughout the shift to preventive maintenance, planned work orders, and other maintenance needs. Instructs mechanics on proper job methods, materials, tools, and equipment. Ensures mechanics are trained and continuously improving skill levels. Orients new personnel and communicates training needs to the Superintendent. Operational Oversight Records job progress and ensures accurate daily time distribution reporting. Provides immediate response to emergency maintenance needs in the Hide area. Communicates schedule variances to peers and coordinates overtime approval. Recommends equipment for inclusion in preventive maintenance programs. Assists Superintendent in determining spare‑parts stocking requirements. Ensures work meets specifications and quality standards. Enforces company policies and work rules among assigned personnel. Advises engineering and leadership of equipment failures or high‑maintenance items. Ensures no equipment modifications occur without valid work orders. Promotes energy‑conservation practices. Provides technical guidance to production on efficient and economical equipment operation. Ensures compliance with food safety, HAACP, and government programs as applicable to Hides operations. Performs all other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Significant walking and stair climbing. Temperature varies depending on specific work areas within the Hide Department. Extended hours may be required. Potential hazards include knives, machinery, electricity, ammonia, hydraulics, and forklift traffic.
EDUCATION
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required. Technical training in mechanical fields preferred.
EXPERIENCE 3-5
years of general industrial maintenance experience.
SPECIAL SKILLS
Knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, welding, and basic PLC systems. Ability to read and comprehend equipment literature relevant to the Hide Department. EOE/VETS/DISABLED
