Full-Time Nature of Work:
This is a foreman position on an assigned crew performing maintenance and/or construction duties with a municipal facility or assigned area. Work involves supervising and participating in those duties which are performed by an assigned crew. Employees in this classification exercise some independence in the performance of duties; however, any major changes in work procedures and policies are discussed with and approved by a designated supervisor.
Education and Experience:
The knowledge, skills, and abilities may be acquired through, but are not limited to, the following combination of education and/or experience. High school diploma or its equivalent AND Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in the area of assignment.
Special Qualifications:
Must possess and maintain a valid Class "B" commercial driver's license with "N" endorsement and air brake certification at the time of application. Must possess a 2nd Grade Hoisting and Engineer's Certificate by the end of the probationary period. May be required to work an overnight schedule as assigned.
Pay Range:
$63,148.80 with step increases to $81,265.60
Annually Benefits:
Forty-hour work week.
Paid leave per year:

Examination Information:
The examination will consist of a training and experience form designed to assess job-related knowledge, skills, and abilities of the position. The training and experience form will be given to candidates once their application has been received, reviewed by a recruiter, and accepted to test for the position. The form must be completed and returned to the Human Resources Department by September 17, 2026 (passing score 60%). Final eligibility list will be the training and experience form weighted 100%.
Veteran Points:
To claim five (5) points for veteran's preference, you must submit proof of service (such as a DD-214) that includes the date of induction, date of honorable separation, and Social Security number. (You must have completed more than 180 consecutive days of active duty.) To receive an additional five (5) points credit for disability, you must submit proof of eligibility from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs dated within the last 12 months. This information must be submitted to the Human Resources Department by September 17, 2026.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of and ability to operate a computer or other technology using standard or customized computer or systems software applications appropriate to the assigned tasks. Knowledge of the standard methods, materials, tools, and practices used in performing the duties of the assigned area. Knowledge of the occupational hazards present in the assigned area and the precautions necessary to prevent them. Knowledge of the geography of the City. Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operations. Skill in operating assigned tools and equipment. Ability to learn and adapt to advances in computer and electronics device technology and software. Ability to operate automotive equipment and basic hand tools in the performance of assigned duties. Ability to train, assign, direct, and participate in the work of a small group of employees. Ability to complete accurate reports of work completed. Ability to communicate with other employees and the general public to direct work operations and to respond to citizen complaints. Ability to understand sketches and area maps. Ability to read and write the English language. Ability to understand oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and members of the general public.
Essential Functions:

Trains, schedules, prioritizes, assigns, directs, and evaluates the work of assigned crew members. Determines the methods, materials, and tools needed to complete projects and orders the materials and equipment accordingly. Inspects project sites to determine the type and extent of repairs or maintenance work needed. Operates various types of automotive and related equipment when assisting subordinate employees in the performance of assigned duties. Prepares concise and complete reports of work completed. Maintains accurate records of work orders, time sheets, overtime logs, complaints, and damage claims. Directs automotive and equipment repair and maintenance schedules. Organizes snow removal schedules and assigns tasks. Communicates with utilities officials, contractors, employees from other City departments or divisions, and members of the public regarding applicable regulations and policies. Maintains regular job attendance in accordance with a schedule established for the position by the supervisor. Performs other related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates within the scope of this classification. The following essential functions are specific to the designated division:
Street Maintenance:
Inspects and may participate in the work of an assigned crew engaged in street repair and maintenance activities in an assigned district; responds to citizen complaints. Answer dispatch phones for street maintenance requests, document and investigate calls, and initiate service requests. Communicates with emergency services (911) as needed concerning service requests.
