Company Overview Based in Mahwah, NJ, Hughes Environmental Engineering is one of the largest and most well-regarded HVAC service and engineering firms in our area. We are a mid-sized, family owned business with over 90 employees and have been in business since 1935. As we continue our projected growth this year, we are seeking to add a Manager, Fleet Operations to our team. About the Position The Fleet Manager is responsible for the safe, reliable, compliant, and cost-effective operation of Hughes Environmental Engineering's fleet of approximately 96 vehicles. The role owns vehicle acquisition, assignment, maintenance, repair, compliance, technology, fuel, tolls, parking, accident response, insurance coordination, new-driver setup, and vehicle disposal. Reporting directly to the company Safety Manager, the Fleet Manager works closely with Operations, Service, Warehouse, Safety, Human Resources, and Finance to maximize vehicle availability and support field employees. Essential Responsibilities Fleet Lifecycle and Availability Maintenance, Repairs, Breakdowns, and Towing Fuel, Tolls, Parking, and Telematics Compliance, DMV, and Driver Administration Accidents, Claims, and Insurance Financial and Vendor Management Additional considerations toward candidate selection Mechanical aptitude or prior automotive, diesel, service-advisor, or maintenance-management experience. Experience building or improving a fleet program, including policies, systems, reporting, vendor standards, and replacement planning.
NAFA CAFM/CAFS
certification or another recognized fleet-management credential. Familiarity with fleet accident claims, commercial auto insurance, and driver-safety programs. Minimum Qualifications Two or more years of fleet management, fleet operations, automotive service coordination, or related experience, preferably supporting construction, mechanical trades, field service, utilities, or another vehicle-intensive operation. Experience managing a mixed fleet of light•and medium-duty vehicles, including service vans, pickups, specialty upfits, and related equipment. Working knowledge of preventive maintenance, repair workflows, registrations and inspections, vehicle documentation, and applicable DOT and driver-compliance requirements. Hands-on experience with fleet-management or GPS/telematics systems and strong Microsoft Excel or reporting skills. Demonstrated vendor-management, negotiation, recordkeeping, analytical, and problem-solving ability. Valid driver's license and ability to meet company driving requirements. Ability to respond calmly and effectively to urgent breakdowns, accidents, and other time-sensitive fleet incidents Working Conditions and Physical Requirements This position is based primarily in an office with regular time in parking areas, the warehouse and yard, repair facilities, dealerships, and other vendor locations. The employee must be able to walk around and inspect vehicles, enter and exit a variety of vehicle types, and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Local travel is required. The position requires availability for urgent fleet incidents outside normal business hours, including nights, weekends, and designated vacation-coverage periods. Additional job details The target salary range for qualified candidates is $76,000•$89,000 per year. This position is based in Mahwah, NJ•in person, Full Time.
