Overview We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Maintenance Manager to lead our maintenance operations and ensure the seamless functioning of our manufacturing facilities. This dynamic role offers the opportunity to oversee maintenance activities, implement safety standards, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. As a key leader in our team, you will foster a safe, efficient, and productive environment by managing maintenance teams and coordinating with production departments to meet operational goals. Maintenance Manager in a tomato canning facility is responsible for ensuring all production, processing, packaging, utility, and facility equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably to support continuous food manufacturing operations.

Position Summary The Maintenance Manager oversees all maintenance activities within the tomato canning facility, including preventive maintenance, equipment repairs, capital improvement projects, and maintenance personnel management. This role ensures maximum equipment uptime, compliance with food safety regulations, employee safety standards, and efficient operation of processing and packaging systems. Key Responsibilities Maintenance Operations Plan, organize, and direct all maintenance activities for processing, canning, packaging, warehouse, and utility systems. Develop and manage preventive and predictive maintenance programs. Troubleshoot and resolve equipment breakdowns to minimize downtime. Coordinate emergency repairs during production operations. Monitor equipment performance and identify opportunities for reliability improvements. Equipment and Systems Management Maintain and oversee: Tomato receiving and unloading equipment Washers, sorters, and conveyors Crushers, evaporators, and processing systems Retorts and sterilization equipment Filling, seaming, and packaging lines Boilers and steam systems Refrigeration and HVAC systems Air compressors and utility systems Water treatment and wastewater systems Electrical distribution systems Team Leadership Supervise maintenance technicians, electricians, mechanics, and contractors. Schedule maintenance staff to support seasonal and year-round operations. Provide coaching, training, and performance management. Ensure compliance with safety procedures and lockout/tagout requirements. Promote a culture of teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement. Food Safety and Regulatory Compliance Ensure maintenance activities comply with FDA, USDA, OSHA, and local regulations. Support food safety programs including GMPs, HACCP, and sanitation requirements. Maintain accurate maintenance and calibration records. Participate in internal and external audits. Ensure equipment is maintained to prevent product contamination. Budget and Inventory Management Develop and manage the annual maintenance budget. Control maintenance labor and repair costs. Manage spare parts inventory and procurement. Evaluate vendors and negotiate service contracts. Support capital expenditure planning and implementation. Continuous Improvement Analyze downtime data and implement corrective actions. Lead reliability and productivity improvement initiatives. Utilize CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) software. Drive energy efficiency and cost-saving projects. Participate in plant improvement and expansion projects. Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related field preferred. Equivalent technical training and industry experience may be considered. Experience 5-10 years of maintenance experience in food processing, manufacturing, or canning operations. 3-5 years of supervisory or management experience. Experience with high-speed production equipment and food processing systems preferred. Technical Skills Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and automation systems. Experience with PLC troubleshooting and industrial controls. Understanding of steam, boiler, refrigeration, and utility systems. Proficiency with CMMS software. Knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance practices. Leadership Skills Strong team leadership and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Problem-solving and decision-making abilities. Strong project management and organizational skills. Physical Requirements Ability to walk throughout a manufacturing facility. Ability to climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and access elevated platforms when needed. Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Willingness to work flexible hours, weekends, and respond to emergency breakdowns. The Maintenance Manager must maintain a strong focus on employee safety, food safety, operational efficiency, and equipment reliability.
Pay:
$125,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
