Job Category Staff & Executive - Administrative & Support - Management Overview The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O) employs a workforce of approximately 2,700 staff, represented by 15 collective negotiations agreements, and is responsible for institutional strategic initiatives and operations, which encompasses an expansive range of comprehensive service and business operations across the State of New Jersey. These include planning and construction, facilities, public safety and emergency operations, environmental health and safety, transportation, housing, and auxiliary/retail operations. Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Assistant Greens Superintendent for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). Under the broad direction of the Greens Superintendent, the Assistant Greens Superintendent serves as the number two supervisor, and in the absence of the Greens Superintendent, acts in his/her place. Rutgers University Golf Course served as a 9-hole facility until 1960, when it underwent a major renovation. The course plays very similar today compared to the redesigned 18-hole facility that was reopened in 1963. The golf course plays at a length of 6337 yards from the Scarlet tees and has a total of four sets of tees on each hole. In 2001 the golf course added an 11,000 sq. ft. short game area and a 35 bay Practice & Teaching facility. The full swing area was modified in 2014 and 7 of the practice bays were removed to add a grass area for the men's and women's golf teams. The course is open, weather permitting, from March 1st to December 20th, and hosts up to 34,000 rounds of golf in that time period. We are home to a diverse mix of golfers from the tri-state area who include the public, alumni, faculty/staff and students. Among the key duties of this position are the following: The Assistant Greens Superintendent will be responsible for assisting the Greens Superintendent in all facets of the turf grass operations. These responsibilities include but are not limited to supervision of the maintenance crew, training and direction of the crew on proper operation of equipment, golf course asset management, irrigation management and oversight and implementation of any golf course improvement projects.

ABP Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in Turfgrass Science or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience in Turfgrass Management/Science. Certifications/Licenses Must have a Valid Driver's License. Must have current NJ Pesticide License or obtain one within 90 days of first day of employment. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Excellent written and verbal communication skills that will be used to communicate effectively with a variety of individuals and groups that includes students, staff, customers, golf committees and university management. Computer skills in most Microsoft Office Suite applications. Must be able to read and interpret diagnostic data from various tests conducted on soil, water, etc. Proficient use of riding/walking mowing equipment, pick-up trucks, tractors, and loaders. Ensure quality and cleanliness standards which includes, but is not limited to, employee hygiene and uniforms, equipment repair and storage areas, chemical and fertilizer areas, lunchroom areas, restrooms, etc. Must enjoy and have knowledge of the Rules of Golf. Requires knowledge of contemporary agronomy and turfgrass management practices. A thorough understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf. Requires knowledge of current local, state and federal laws and regulations affecting the management of golf course operations which includes, but is not limited to, employment, safety and environmental standards, laws and regulations. The successful candidate will take an active role in continuing educational opportunities such as seminars, community outreach and trade shows. Preferred Qualifications Certification and a member in good standing with the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America. Experience with social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and the creation of blog posts. Experience with USGA Performance Management Tool and development/involvement in the Audubon Society. Prefer good command of the Spanish language. Equipment Utilized Proficient use of riding/walking mowing equipment, pick-up trucks, tractors, and loaders Physical Demands and Work Environment Ability to lift 50 lbs. independently and fulfill physical requirements of the position. Must be able to work weekends, holidays and mornings and evenings as business and course conditions demand.
