Posting Details District Five is one of six districts of the New Mexico Department of Transportation. The boundaries of District Five include the following counties: Torrance, Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Rio Arriba, Taos, and San Juan. Employees in the District are responsible for providing the Maintenance, Construction, Engineering Support, and Business support measures of the Department to ensure the safety of the public as well as efficient highways. This job is located in the Penasco Patrol. As a valued new employee to NMDOT, you may be eligible to receive three (3) days of administrative leave upon your start date. This is applicable to external hires not within the State of New Mexico Government. Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within Two (2) weeks of Closing Date. Why does the job exist? This position supervises seven or more subordinates on a maintenance patrol with a designated area involving in a variety of highway maintenance activities. This position will also perform operation of medium to heavy duty motorized equipment and powered stationary equipment in construction and maintenance of roads and highways in a safe and efficient manner to maintain interstates, roads, roadways and highways for the safety of the traveling public. Incumbent will respond to emergencies and snow removal operations. How does it get done? By supervising a crew of seven or more subordinates. Assigning employees to perform maintenance activities on a daily basis and ensuring their work is complete. Entering Daily Maintenance Activities into the Maintenance Management System. Approving payroll for employees on a weekly basis. Providing customer service to the traveling public. Who are the customers? Traveling public, internal and external customers. Ideal Candidate Traveling public, internal and external customers. Minimum Qualification High School Diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of experience maintaining roads and operating medium to heavy-duty equipment to include loaders, five (5) and ten (10) yard dump trucks, self-propelled brooms, rollers, or mowers. Any education from an accredited college or university in a related field totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience. Must possess a valid driver's license and a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) (or equivalent licenses from another state) upon hire. This position may require Herbicide, Tanker, and/or Hazmat endorsement. Employment Requirements This position is designated a safety sensitive position within the meaning of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991 and must abide by all provisions of the Federal Omnibus Transportation Testing Act. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Employment requires successful completion of a post-offer physical and pre-employment drug test; employment is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License and a New Mexico Class A Commercial Driver's License at the time of hire. Tanker and Hazmat Endorsement may be required. Business reference check and Driver's License verification are also required, and employment is conditional pending results. Working Conditions Work is performed outside in varying weather conditions - hot or cold, wind, rain and snow, dust, pollen, chemicals, rough/rugged terrain, noxious plants and infected trash; subject to falls and bruises, considerable physical expenditure; irregular hours day or night; to include but not limited to standing for extended time doing traffic control or walking long distances for litter control; subject to call out for weather or accidents and/or emergencies on short notice; work may also be performed in an office setting to include working with computers, faxes, copiers and printers; use of hands to finger, handle or feel while performing various assigned maintenance duties; numerous specific vision abilities to include: close, distance, color, and peripheral vision; depth perception, and ability to adjust focus; ability to lift up to 50 lbs; climbing, reaching, kneeling, crawling to perform equipment maintenance. Exposure to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals, airborne particles and/or asphalt and petroleum products; exposure to temperatures up to 150 degrees around oil distributor operations; high speed/high volume traffic; load noises.
