POSITION SUMMARY MTA
New York City Transit's Access-A-Ride program is a federally mandated paratransit service that is operated in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990. AAR provides origin-to-destination, demand-response, shared-ride transportation for individuals with disabilities who cannot use fixed-route public buses or subways. The General Superintendent, Maintenance is accountable for supplying safe and reliable vehicles to allow for the daily delivery of reliable transportation service to customers. This includes taking an active role in developing, implementing and maintaining strict budgets, including vehicle forecast requirements and vendor monitoring on contract compliance.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct the day-to-day vehicle maintenance/preventive maintenance functions, including vehicle availability, and ensure contractors are maintaining equipment as per contract agreement with NYCT. Direct the full range of labor relations activities for the depot/shop, including developing and implementing policies and procedures requiring consistency in achieving Paratransit goals. Coordinate activities with the transportation providers and the community at large in response to issues that arise and changing priorities. Must maintain current on all new vehicle purchases and their subsystems.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Eight (8) years of full-time related experience, at least four (4) of which must have been in a managerial/supervisory capacity.
DESIRED SKILLS
Knowledge of NYCT rules and regulations. Knowledge of DOB/MTA Bus policies and procedures. Comprehensive knowledge of Buses maintenance operations, including preventative maintenance, contract administration, and equipment specifications The ability to make decisions rapidly and under pressure and constrained by the availability of labor and equipment. The ability to analyze information, assess its reliability and make related operational decisions.
Selection Method:
Based on evaluation of education, skills, experience, and interview.
