No County Orange Street Address NYS Department of Transportation - Residency 8-5 2 US Route 6 City Port Jervis State NY Zip Code 12771 Duties Description As a Highway Maintenance Supervisor 1, you would be a working supervisor for a highway maintenance crew assigned to the operation of various-sized equipment involved in maintenance and repair projects on or adjacent to state highways or structural units. These projects may include, but are not limited to, patching pavements and filling holes; cleaning and repairing ditches and culverts and other drainage structures; cutting grass and other right-of-way maintenance; repairing guide rails and signs; and snow and ice control. On large maintenance projects you may supervise a phase of the project under the general direction of a Highway Maintenance Supervisor 2. You would operate light trucks and may operate heavy dump trucks, perform one-person snow plowing, and operate other highway equipment. You would be required to answer emergency calls outside of your regular hours of work, perform related work as required, and maintain work records. Must be able to respond to Snow and Ice related callouts within one (1) hour. Appointees will be required to satisfactorily complete a "double wing plowing" certification program which the Department of Transportation will offer during the probationary period. Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).

The qualifications are:

Promotional:

One year of permanent competitive, non-competitive, 55-b/55-c, or labor class service as follows: Bridge Repair Assistant, Construction Equipment Operator, Equipment Operator Instructor, General Mechanic, Trades Generalist, Highway Equipment Operator, Highway Maintenance Worker 1, Highway Maintenance Worker 2, Maintenance Assistant, Pavement Marking Supervisor, Sign Crew Supervisor, Tree Pruner, Tree Pruner Supervisor, Bridge Repair Mechanic, Trades Specialist (Bridge), Assistant Drill Rig Operator, or Drill Rig Operator.

Important:

Experience as a Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 1 or Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 2 is NOT qualifying for this examination

Open Competitive:

Either 1. Two years of experience in the construction or maintenance of paved highways, streets, roads, or similar facilities. Or 2. 30 semester credit hours in engineering, engineering technology, construction technology, forestry, or surveying AND one year of experience as described above.

Substitution:

A diploma or certificate of completion from a post-secondary trade school, apprenticeship program, military construction specialty school (documented completion of US Army 14 Week Corp of Engineers Field 12 One Station or more advanced training, or equivalent or more advanced construction skills training by over US military branches), or trade school in carpentry, masonry, welding, or construction can be substituted for a maximum of one year of non-supervisory experience.

Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At a future date, it is expected employees hired under

NY HELPS

will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in an

NY HELPS

title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified. Your required educational credentials must have been awarded by an educational institution accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the United States (U.S.) Department of Education/Secretary of Education. If awarded by an institution outside of the U.S. and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. This amount is comprised of the base salary of $53,413 with an additional geographic pay differential of $9,000, specific to this title and location. The maximum compensation for this position is $74,061. This amount is comprised of the standard job rate of $65,061 with an additional geographic pay differential of $9,000, specific to this title and location. In addition, a Mid-Hudson Adjustment of $2,000 or a Downstate Adjustment of $4,000 may also apply depending on the location of the position.
