Job Description

Industry leading food manufacturer in the Chambersburg, PA area is seeking a Maintenance Manager to oversee all maintenance operations, technical personnel, and facility infrastructure within their food production plant. This role is vital for balancing high operational efficiency and equipment uptime with strict adherence to food safety, hygiene, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement while leading a skilled team of technicians to support a 24/7 manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities Preventive & Predictive Maintenance:
Optimize a robust Preventive Maintenance (PM) program via the CMMS to minimize unplanned downtime and extend equipment life.
Emergency Repairs:
Lead rapid-response troubleshooting for mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment failures.
Regulatory & Food Safety Compliance:
Ensure all maintenance practices conform to sanitary design principles and strictly enforce Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) protocols.
Audit Readiness:
Maintain flawless records for all maintenance activities, calibrations, and facility testing to ensure total compliance during SQF, BRC, FDA, and USDA audits.
Utility & Facility Management:
Oversee critical plant utilities, including boilers, air compressors, industrial refrigeration units, and wastewater treatment systems.
Team Leadership & Development:
Supervise, mentor, and schedule a multi-shift team of maintenance technicians, supervisors, and parts clerks.
Financial & Inventory Control:
Manage the maintenance department budget and oversee the MRO crib to ensure critical spare parts are stocked efficiently.
Capital Projects:
Collaborate with engineering teams to scope, install, and commission new production lines and facility upgrades.
Requirements Industry Experience:
5+ years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing plant, with a minimum of 2-3 years in a leadership role specifically within the food, beverage, or pharmaceutical industries.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Industrial Management, or a related technical field; equivalent technical trade certification and extensive experience will also be considered.
Regulatory Knowledge:
Deep understanding of food safety regulations (FSMA, FDA, USDA) and GFSI certification standards (such as SQF or BRC).
Technical Skills:
Strong hands-on knowledge of food processing equipment (mixers, high-speed packaging lines, fillers, metal detectors) and proficiency with PLC troubleshooting (e.g., Allen-Bradley).
Systems Experience:
Expert proficiency in utilizing a CMMS (e.g., Maximo, Fiix, eMaint) for work order tracking and asset management.
Soft Skills:
Exceptional crisis-management, problem-solving, and communication skills to bridge technical needs with production demands.
Physical/Schedule Flexibility:
Ability to work in varying environments (wet, cold storage, or hot processing areas) and flexibility to support a 24/7 operation during critical breakdowns.
