In this vital role, you will oversee the entire engineering department, ensuring that all hotel systems—including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical equipment—operate efficiently, safely, and reliably. Job Purpose:
Manage maintenance operations including, but not limited to, refrigeration, heating/cooling (HVAC), plumbing, electrical & oversee renovations. Ensure safety and compliance standards are met.
Job Responsibilities:
Supervise, develop and maintain ongoing maintenance operation for hotel, including refrigeration, heating, plumbing, water treatment, preventive maintenance, hotel rooms, A/H units, ice machines, pools, lighting, kitchenequipment, emergency generators, water softeners, switch rooms, roof exhausts, electrical substations, etc. Ensure projects are completed according to specifications and on time estimating worker-hour requirements for completion. Establish or adjust work procedures to meet production schedules. Develop and manage standards for sustainability. Maintain all logs that record information. Work closely with Housekeeper and Front Desk Manager to ensure coordination of activities. May confer with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments. Manage contracts and staffing. Perform work within departmental expense plans. May estimate, requisition, and inspect materials. Meet with architects to discuss blueprints, contact contractors to submit bids for new construction, and meet with construction supervisors to discuss different phases of work. Follow all company and safety and security policies and procedures; report accidents, injuries and unsafe work conditions to management; complete safety training and certifications and enforce safety regulations. Manage safety systems as they relate to patrons and employees per institutional guidelines as well as state and federal law. Head Loss Prevention team. Analyze and resolve work problems or assist workers in solving problems. Initiate or suggest plans to motivate workers. Recommend or initiate personnel actions, such as training, promotions, transfers, discharges, and disciplinary measures. Reward employees who meet/exceed expectations. Consult with workers' representatives. Interpret specifications, job orders, and company policies to workers. Utilize computerized maintenance management systems. Manage utilities within institutional policies and environmental guidelines; implement and coordinate recycling and other environmentally friendly efforts. Set up and test industrial equipment to ensure it functions properly. Operate equipment to demonstrate proper use or analyze malfunctions. Plan and perform long and short-term facilities assessments. Formulate and execute capital replacement budgets. Develop and implement customer relations plans to improve service levels and response times. Formulate and articulate risk management plans including emergency preparedness and fire and life. Schedule preventive maintenance tasks, such as checking, cleaning, or repairing equipment, to detect and prevent problems. Examine work orders and converse with equipment operators to detect equipment problems. Determine whether mechanical or human errors contributed to the problem. Other duties as required.
Job Skills:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form. Read and understand instructions, safety rules, etc. Write reports with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar. Knowledge of current practices and data used in delivering facility maintenance services, including transportation, grounds care, housekeeping, furniture fixtures, and equipment care. Knowledge of heating and cooling control systems and software. Basic knowledge of current products and technology for floor coverings, wall coverings, and other fixed assets. Guide, direct, and motivate subordinates — Provide guidance and direction to subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance. Service Orientation — Actively looks for ways to help people. Understanding of energy and utilities management and policies related to energy usage and conservation.
Job Qualifications:
Education:
Vocational Institution Certificate. Completion of apprenticeship in plumbing/electrical repair as well preferred.
Experience:
5 years supervisory experience in the maintenance field and 3 years experience in the HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and painting trades; OR, an equivalent combination of educ. & experience.
Licenses/Certifications :
As required by state or local ordinance.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Works in indoor and outdoor conditions and in close proximity to others. Ability to communicate effectively and give clear directives to a diverse group of individuals.
