Job Description
Director of Recon - Service/Repair Read This First — Not for Everyone This is not a typical service manager role. We are looking for a high-accountability operator who can take full ownership of recon and service operations, drive performance, control costs, and lead people without constant direction. If your experience is limited to supervising a bay or managing tickets, this is not the role for you. If you have successfully run a full recon or service operation, improved cycle times, controlled spend, and led teams to measurable results , we want to talk to you. Applicants without an updated, detailed resume reflecting relevant experience will not be considered. The Director of Recon and Service is responsible for end-to-end operational leadership of all reconditioning and service functions—from vehicle intake to lot-ready completion.
You will own:
Vehicle flow and recon throughput Service quality and cost control Team performance and accountability Vendor relationships and operational efficiency This role directly impacts inventory readiness, profitability, and customer experience. What You Will Be Held Accountable For Reducing recon cycle time without sacrificing quality Controlling cost per unit and eliminating waste Maximizing shop productivity and utilization Ensuring vehicles are lot-ready on schedule Leading and developing a multi-role team (techs, advisors, drivers, detail, parts) Maintaining strong vendor performance and cost discipline Handling customer escalations professionally and decisively Delivering consistent, measurable operational results What You Will Do Oversee all incoming vehicle processing (purchases, trades, repos, auction units) Manage recon workflow, prioritization, and lot organization Inspect vehicles and validate repair decisions based on value and profitability Audit repair orders, labor accuracy, and parts usage Lead hiring, coaching, discipline, and performance management with HR partnership Build strong vendor and supplier relationships Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards Minimum Qualifications (Strictly Enforced) 3-5+ years in automotive service or recon operations 2-3+ years managing people in a service environment Proven experience improving: Cost control Cycle time Ability to manage multiple workflows and priorities simultaneously Strong decision-making under pressure Experience with recon or dealer management systemsPreferred:
