Job Description

Under direction of the street superintendent, manage the construction, repair, maintenance and replacement of street and storm drainage systems. Employees in the classification perform at middle management level and are responsible for ensuring the safety and quality of city transportation roadways and efficiency of storm drainage systems. Position is accountable for assisting with departmental administrative duties as well as supervising entry level management staff.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Supervise and evaluate street department employees; ensures the safe and productive use of equipment utilized in associated repair work; ensures all proper training and direction is provided for subordinates in the use, care maintenance of tools and equipment; oversee construction and maintenance work to determine acceptability and conformance to standard; perform periodic inspections of all work in progress; inspect detected deterioration, repair and maintenance of road conditions and evaluate recommendations for corrective measures; interpret complex assignments to staff and assigns duties to crews of varying sizes and skills; establish and adjust work procedures to meet schedules; requisition materials and supplies for projects and coordinates the efficient use of workers, resources and equipment; ensure the location of gas, telephone, power, television, water from appropriate sources prior to excavation and inform crews of such locations; function in severe weather conditions and ability to respond to hazard/risky situations and direct mitigation efforts in emergencies; perform other duties as directed. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Five years progressively responsible experience in a lead capacity over sidewalk repair, streets maintenance and storm water drainage projects. Must be able to perform labor intensive work within difficult environmental conditions to include frequent lifting, pulling and pushing of 50 lbs. Must be able to hear, mobility required to inspect work of staff and contractors. Must be able to endure all weather elements to include extreme cold and extreme heat. Class "B" or "A" Driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Miscellaneous Information
