Job Description
Primary Purpose:
Provide leadership and oversight for the district's locksmith program by supervising locksmith personnel, maintaining the district's keying systems, and ensuring all mechanical locks, doors, door hardware, and related security components are properly installed, maintained, and repaired to provide safe and secure district facilities.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education/Certification:
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Valid Texas Driver's License (or ability to obtain)
Certified Registered Locksmith (CRL) certification preferred.
Minimum Experience:
Five (5) years of commercial or institutional locksmith experience.
Two (2) years of supervisory or lead experience preferred.
Special Knowledge and Skills:
Thorough knowledge of commercial locksets, cylinders, master key systems, and door hardware.
Knowledge of commercial doors, frames, closers, panic hardware, hinges, and exit devices.
Ability to pin, rekey, repair, install, and replace locks and door hardware.
Ability to read hardware schedules, blueprints, and technical manuals.
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to prioritize work orders and coordinate multiple assignments.
Knowledge of life safety requirements, ADA standards, and applicable building codes.
Ability to train and mentor assigned personnel.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Supervise the daily operations of the district locksmith shop.
Assign, prioritize, and monitor locksmith work orders.
Install, repair, adjust, and replace locks, cylinders, door closers, hinges, panic hardware, and related door hardware.
Maintain and administer the district's master key system.
Cut, issue, recover, and maintain records for all district keys.
Perform rekeying of facilities as required for security or personnel changes.
Inspect completed work to ensure repairs meet district standards and manufacturer specifications.
Maintain inventory of keys, lock hardware, tools, and repair materials.
Prepare labor and material estimates for locksmith projects.
Maintain accurate maintenance records and key control documentation.
Respond to emergency lockouts, broken locks, damaged doors, and security-related maintenance issues.
Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles in safe operating condition.
Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, flexibility, and a willingness to perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director and Maintenance Coordinator
EQUIPMENT USED
Key cutting machines, pinning kits, key code machines, hand and power tools, drills, grinders, ladders, door hardware installation tools, and standard maintenance equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical Demands:
Frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials weighing over 50 pounds. Frequent work from ladders and elevated work areas. Responsibilities of the position may require irregular work hours.
Environment:
Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Exposure to heat, cold, dust, noise, construction materials, moving machinery, and elevated work areas. Travel between district facilities is required. Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow established safety procedures.
