MSPS is looking to hire a Senior Medical Facilities Planner (Healthcare Architecture). This position provides senior-level architectural planning, programming, design review, and technical consulting support for Defense Health Agency (DHA) healthcare, medical education, research, and laboratory facility projects. The selected candidate will support planning, design, construction, commissioning, and activation activities for Military Construction (MILCON), Unspecified Minor Military Construction (UMMC), and special healthcare facility projects while ensuring compliance with DHA requirements and healthcare industry standards. This position is contingent upon contract award.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Serve as senior architectural subject matter expert for healthcare, medical academic, and research facility projects. Participate in planning studies, programming efforts, facility utilization analyses, and space planning initiatives. Conduct technical reviews of architectural designs, drawings, specifications, and construction documents. Evaluate project layouts, workflows, circulation patterns, patient flow, staff operations, and functional relationships. Support development and refinement of planning documents, business plans, facility studies, and programming requirements. Facilitate design review meetings with DHA stakeholders, end users, clinicians, educators, researchers, and facility leadership. Coordinate with NAVFAC, USACE, architects, engineers, consultants, and construction teams. Review Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs), Requests for Information (RFIs), and construction modifications for impacts to design intent and operational requirements. Support commissioning, turnover, occupancy readiness, and post-occupancy evaluation activities. Assist with development of maintenance and sustainment recommendations. Prepare reports, presentations, technical assessments, and executive briefings. Support project documentation and records management requirements. Frequent interaction with Government personnel, healthcare stakeholders, architects, engineers, educators, and researchers. Participate in site visits, facility assessments, and construction walkthroughs. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
Education and Industry Experience Bachelor's degree in Architecture from an accredited institution preferred. Licensed Architect preferred. Minimum ten (10) years of experience supporting healthcare architectural projects. Minimum five (5) years of experience supporting NAVFAC and/or USACE medical facility projects. Experience supporting hospitals, ambulatory care facilities, medical education facilities, laboratories, and research environments. Demonstrated experience supporting planning, programming, design, construction, activation, and occupancy activities. Ability to review detailed plans, drawings, and technical documentation. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Extensive knowledge of healthcare architecture and facility planning principles. Knowledge of healthcare operations, medical academic environments, and research facility requirements. Understanding of Department of Defense healthcare planning and facility design criteria. Working knowledge of UFC, NFPA, OSHA, ADA/ABA, ASHRAE, Joint Commission standards, and applicable building codes. Knowledge of medical facility commissioning and activation processes. Ability to review and interpret architectural drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, and technical documentation. Ability to facilitate stakeholder workshops and planning sessions. Working knowledge of CADD systems and design software. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Project. Certifications/Licenses/Other Professional Architect Registration - preferred. NCARB certification - preferred. Ability to obtain and maintain a favorable Tier 1/NACI background investigation. Ability to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC). Must comply with all DHA, Department of Defense, and installation security requirements.
Work Environment:
Primarily office-based within DHA Facilities Enterprise offices located in Falls Church, Virginia. Periodic travel to military medical facilities, project sites, and active construction environments.
Physical Demands:
Prolonged periods of sitting and computer use. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally.
