Water Meter Technician - II

Water Meter Technician - II Orange Vale Water Company is seeking a highly motivated team player to head our Water Meter Department. Under minimal supervision, the Water Meter Technician will operate a motor scooter along designated meter routes with a handheld meter reader, input data into Microsoft Excel and company billing software, work closely with the billing department to ensure timely and accurate meter data, inspect meters for defects and repair or replace as necessary, monitor and investigate abnormal usage volume and/or tampering that may indicate unlawful usage, interact with customers encountered while on assignments in a professional manner, drive a utility truck or other light vehicle hauling supplies and materials, check assigned vehicles as necessary to ensure safe and dependable operation, notify customers of water emergency shutdowns or otherwise as required, perform traffic control duties as necessary, possess knowledge of methods of water system installation and repair as well as familiarity with equipment, tools, and materials for such repairs.

The ideal candidate will possess:

High School diploma or equivalent California Department of Drinking Water Water Distribution Operator 1 certification (or ability to obtain within one year of employment) California Class C Driver License Motorcycle M1 license (or ability to obtain a permit within 60 days of hire ) Basic computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Word Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals Proof of good driving record as evidenced by freedom from multiple or serious traffic violations or accidents for at least two years duration Physical requirements: Ride a motor scooter for meter reading and travel by vehicle for Company related duties and activities Regular use of telephone for communication Regular use of tools and equipment during on-site job functions Ability to carry, reach, and lift supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb during field work Stand and walk for extended time periods and on uneven terrain Work out-of-doors as needed in all weather conditions with exposure to dust, dirt, water, and significant temperature changes between cold and heat Hearing and vision within normal ranges with or without correction Must wear Cal OSHA approved protective footwear with a minimum of
