Salary Range:
$23.98-$36.60/hour •Starting salary depending on qualificationsNormal Work Days/Hours:
Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.Application Deadline Date:
April 1, 2026 Responsibilities Maintains and small water meters, including encoder meters, and meter reading equipment. Installs, repairs and exchanges meters and associated equipment. Operates a water services truck and uses small hand tools to perform meter maintenance. Investigates billing complaints and vacant properties by visiting locations and obtaining reads. Checks for leaks and interacts with customers. Utilizes maps to locate and read remote and out-of-the-way meters. Inspects work performed by licensed plumbers. Performs rechecks on original reads, and locates and/or digs up and cleans out curb boxes and meter vaults. Demonstrates knowledge of the municipal water main network and the various connections between that network and points of residential, commercial, and industrial usage as well as the mechanical design, parts and operation of water meters and service components. Must possess a thorough understanding of the metering and billing process and basic plumbing principles and repair techniques. QualificationsREQUIRES
high school graduation and 2 years of experience in the installation or reading of water meters, or construction and maintenance of water mains and services. Must possess a valid State-issued driver's license in acdordance with the City of KCMO policies. May be required to possess a valid CDL (Commercial Driver's License) Class A, B, or C issued by the State of Missouri prior to the end of the employee's probationary period (appropriate CDL will be determined by the department). Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical as prescribed by the City. If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
