Job Description

Performs intermediate semiskilled work maintaining water meters and boxes, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Senior Water Servicer. This position is subject to shift hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Utilizes City vehicle; utilizes an iPad and other devices to assist with job duties; disconnects/connects water service; meter/meter box maintenance; install or remove meters; troubleshoot and repair minor leaks. Provides customer service; manages assigned truck maintenance and truck inventory. Locates and reads water meters on assigned route and records consumption on the meters that are not part of the AMI system. Keeps records of meters read and reports meters not accessible for reading.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
General knowledge of related industry methods, supporting compliance with regulatory standards & procedures as recommended. Knowledgeable of reading & recording water meter consumption. General knowledge of AMI system & meters. Geographical knowledge of surrounding locations; working in adverse weather conditions; use of hand tools; ability to use an automated consumption recording device; managing adverse situations. Developing and maintaining an effective working relationship with associates, supervisors, and the public.
Physical Requirements:
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure to wet humid conditions (non-weather), exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to the risk of electrical shock and frequently requires working in high, precarious places, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic). Special Requirements Within 1 year of hire: OSHA Safety training CPR training May be assigned to second shift Upon hire: Valid Driver's License
