POSITION SUMMARY
The Meter Technician is responsible for the installation, testing, repair, and maintenance of utility meters. This role involves fieldwork, ensuring accurate readings, troubleshooting equipment, and providing excellent customer service.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be required and assigned. 1. Reads water meters and records water usage for billing purposes. 2. Install new meters for customers, replace faulty or outdated meters, and upgrade existing meters with newer models. 3. Replace broken and/or missing meter boxes and lids. 4. Regularly check and calibrate meters to ensure accuracy in usage readings. 5. Identify, diagnose, and repair faulty or malfunctioning meters. 6. Conduct routine testing of meters to ensure they are operating efficiently and accurately. 7. Record and report meter readings, data, and any maintenance or service performed. 8. Communicate with customers regarding meter issues, installations, or service upgrades, addressing any concerns or questions. 9. Adhere to safety guidelines, industry standards, and regulatory requirements during all tasks. 10. Maintain accurate records of installations, repairs, and service orders. 11. Turns water services on or off as instructed. 12. Performs re-reads to verify accuracy of water usage. 13. Follow proper safety procedures when working with potentially hazardous materials or environments, such as electrical systems or gas lines. 14. Other duties as assigned.
