Job Summary:

The Millwright is a key member of the sawmill operations team, responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing all mechanical equipment within the mill. This includes saws, conveyors, chippers, debarkers, kilns, and other heavy industrial equipment critical to lumber processing. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude and works well in a fast-paced, safety-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Install, align, and maintain sawmill machinery, including saws, planers, conveyors, debarkers, chipper systems, and kilns. Perform routine preventive maintenance to reduce downtime and maximize equipment performance. Troubleshoot mechanical problems and conduct necessary repairs using appropriate tools and equipment. Read and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, and blueprints to complete assignments accurately. Operate hoists, forklifts, and cranes to position machinery and heavy components. Fabricate and weld replacement parts as needed. Monitor systems for unusual noises, vibrations, or mechanical wear. Work closely with production staff to coordinate repairs and minimize disruptions to operations. Ensure all work complies with OSHA and company safety policies. Maintain accurate maintenance logs and service records. Participate in equipment upgrades and process improvement initiatives. Maintaining telehandler, forklift, wheel loaders, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or apprenticeship preferred. 3+ years of experience in a millwright or industrial maintenance role, preferably in a sawmill or lumber operation. Solid understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Proficient with welding, cutting, and fabricating tools. Skilled at reading blueprints, schematics, and machinery manuals. Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and around loud machinery. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical labor in varying weather conditions. Strong troubleshooting and time management skills. Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and be oncall as needed.
