PM Salary:
$65,000.00 per year Summary The Hospital Operations Manager oversees daily hospital operations to ensure a safe, efficient, and patient-centered environment. This role is responsible for managing staff, coordinating departmental activities, maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations, and ensuring high standards of patient care and customer service are consistently achieved. The Hospital Operations Manager provides leadership, guidance, and support to administrative, environmental services, and support staff while collaborating with hospital leadership, physicians, nurses, and other departments. The Manager ensures operational goals are met, staffing levels are maintained, inventory and equipment are properly managed, and all hospital policies and procedures are followed. This position requires strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
JOB FUNCTIONS
People Management & Development Interviews, hires, trains, and supervises hospital support staff and department personnel. Promotes employee engagement and professional development through training and recognition programs. Maintains appropriate staffing levels and prepares employee schedules. Supervises, coordinates, and evaluates staff performance to ensure operational efficiency and quality patient service. Ensures effective communication between departments and shifts for continuity of care and operations. Cross-trains employees to support multiple operational functions as needed. Addresses employee concerns and recommends disciplinary action when appropriate. Conducts regular staff meetings, training sessions, and performance evaluations. All other duties as assigned by hospital leadership. Operations & Financial Management Oversees day-to-day hospital operations to ensure compliance with healthcare standards and organizational policies. Conducts planning, budgeting, and resource allocation for operational departments. Maintains cost-effective operations while ensuring quality patient and staff support services. Forecasts and manages purchasing of supplies, equipment, and operational materials. Maintains records related to inventory, compliance, staffing, budgets, and operational performance. Ensures all hospital equipment and operational systems are functioning properly and coordinates maintenance when necessary. Monitors departmental productivity and implements process improvements to enhance efficiency. All other duties as assigned by hospital leadership. Patient & Customer Service Ensures high standards of patient satisfaction, safety, and customer service are consistently maintained. Interacts professionally with patients, families, physicians, hospital staff, vendors, and the public. Responds promptly and appropriately to operational concerns and emergency situations. Ensures compliance with hospital policies, healthcare regulations, and accreditation standards. Supports a positive hospital environment focused on patient-centered care. All other duties as assigned by hospital leadership. Safety & Compliance Ensures adherence to infection prevention, sanitation, and workplace safety standards. Develops, maintains, and enforces policies and procedures related to infection control, emergency preparedness, and regulatory compliance. Ensures staff follow proper safety procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Maintains knowledge of healthcare regulations, OSHA standards, HIPAA requirements, and hospital safety guidelines. Conducts routine inspections and audits to ensure operational and regulatory compliance. Ability to respond effectively during emergencies and operational disruptions.
EDUCATION / TRAINING / WORK EXPERIENCE
Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Hospital Management, or related field preferred. Minimum of 2 years of management or supervisory experience in a hospital or healthcare setting preferred. Experience in hospital operations, healthcare services, or patient support services strongly preferred. Basic computer skills required. Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
The Hospital Operations Manager must possess the following: Strong leadership and team management skills. Knowledge of hospital operations, healthcare regulations, and patient service standards. Understanding of infection control and safety procedures in a healthcare environment. Ability to manage budgets, inventory, staffing, and operational processes. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational and multitasking abilities. Ability to exercise sound judgment and problem-solving skills. Ability to interact professionally with patients, physicians, staff, and the public. Proficiency with computer systems and healthcare software applications. Ability to work flexible hours and support operational needs when necessary. Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations. Strong customer service and conflict-resolution skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Must be fluent in English (reading, writing, and speaking). Must possess basic math and reporting skills.
