Millwright Mechanic - Portable Concrete Plant Job Description This role focuses on installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing portable concrete batch plants, primarily REX brand units. You will work on mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, perform minor welding and fabrication, and support full plant setup and teardown at various job sites. The position requires consistent travel to remote plant locations, the ability to work in all weather conditions, and adherence to OSHA and lockout/tagout safety standards while minimizing plant downtime through proactive maintenance. Responsibilities Install, commission, and dismantle portable concrete batch plants, with a focus on REX brand equipment. Perform mechanical repairs on industrial equipment such as conveyors, motors, and mixers to ensure reliable plant operation. Troubleshoot and repair electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems to quickly identify and resolve equipment issues. Conduct preventative maintenance, including greasing, filter changes, and lubrication, to minimize unplanned downtime. Carry out minor welding and fabrication tasks, including MIG or stick welding and cutting torch work, to repair or modify plant components. Use power tools and hand tools safely and effectively for assembly, disassembly, and repair of plant equipment. Support full plant setup and teardown at various job sites, including alignment, calibration, and functional testing of equipment. Follow OSHA and lockout/tagout (LOTO) safety standards during all maintenance and repair activities. Operate or assist with the operation of forklifts, skid steers, manlifts, or loaders as needed for plant installation and maintenance. Work safely in confined spaces and at heights while performing inspections, repairs, and maintenance tasks. Travel regularly to remote job sites, typically 2-3 hours away, and adapt to changing site conditions and schedules. Collaborate with site teams to plan maintenance activities around production schedules and seasonal workflows. Document maintenance and repair activities accurately to support equipment reliability and compliance requirements. Essential Skills Proven experience in mechanical repair of industrial equipment, including conveyors, motors, and mixers. Hands-on experience with electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic troubleshooting in an industrial or plant environment. Demonstrated ability to install, set up, and tear down portable plant equipment, with REX brand experience preferred. Strong preventative maintenance skills, including greasing, filter changes, lubrication, and routine inspections. Proficiency with MIG or stick welding for repair and light fabrication work. Ability to work safely in confined spaces and at heights in accordance with safety standards. Experience using power tools and hand tools for assembly, disassembly, and repair tasks. Capability to travel regularly to remote job sites and work outdoors in all weather conditions. Willingness to work overtime, including occasional Saturdays during peak season. Commitment to following OSHA and lockout/tagout (LOTO) safety procedures. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with REX brand portable concrete batch plants or similar equipment. Fabrication and cutting torch experience for modifying and repairing plant components. Experience operating forklifts, skid steers, manlifts, or loaders. Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred for transporting equipment or materials. Comfort working within a seasonal workflow that includes preparation, a long production season, and teardown. Work Environment You will work primarily outdoors in all weather conditions at portable concrete plant sites. The standard schedule follows a first shift, approximately 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with the possibility of Saturday work during peak season. The workflow is seasonal, moving from preparation to a long operating season and then teardown, with potential off-season layoff depending on workload. You will work around heavy industrial equipment and mobile machinery such as forklifts, skid steers, manlifts, and loaders, and you will use power tools, welding equipment, and cutting torches in a field-based industrial setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Grimes, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $35.00/hr.
