Job Title:
Sheet Metal Technician Job Description This role focuses on installing ductwork and sheet metal on an industrial project, including rooftop units, curb units, and various sizes of duct systems. You will work from blueprints, assemble and install HVAC equipment, and ensure all work meets safety and quality standards. The position requires hands-on field work, use of personal tools and PPE, and the ability to travel, with a daily per diem provided for travelers. Responsibilities Install ductwork and sheet metal systems on an industrial project, including various sizes of duct and associated components. Lay out and install sheet metal and duct systems according to project specifications and site conditions. Read and interpret blueprints and specifications to determine the correct locations for curbs, ductwork, sheet metal, and rooftop units. Assist with the assembly and installation of HVAC equipment such as duct and sheet metal, rooftop units, curbs, louvers, and hangers. Set and align rooftop equipment and curb units safely and accurately. Install louvers and related sheet metal components in accordance with design requirements. Perform rigging activities associated with lifting and setting rooftop equipment and large duct sections. Keep all assigned tools and equipment in good working order and ensure proper and timely maintenance is performed. Offload deliveries at job sites and load trucks with materials, tools, and equipment as needed. Use hand tools and power tools, including wrenches, pliers, channel locks, vice grips, impact drills, sockets, and screwdrivers, safely and effectively. Follow all OSHA and internal safety standards at all times, including proper use of PPE and adherence to site safety procedures. Collaborate with other crew members and supervisors to complete tasks efficiently and meet project deadlines. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area on the job site. Report any safety concerns, equipment issues, or installation problems promptly to the appropriate personnel. Essential Skills 5+ years of experience installing louvers, setting rooftop equipment, performing rigging, and installing ductwork and sheet metal. Proven experience setting curbs, hanging ducts, installing sheet metal, and setting rooftop units on industrial or commercial projects. Ability to read and interpret blueprints to determine where curbs, ductwork, sheet metal, and rooftop units are to be installed. Strong HVAC installation experience, particularly with duct and sheet metal systems and rooftop units. Ability to lay out and install sheet metal and duct systems accurately and efficiently. Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and commitment to following all safety procedures. OSHA 10 certification or higher, or the ability to obtain it before starting. Proficiency using personal hand tools such as wrenches, pliers, channel locks, vice grips, impact drills, 9/16" sockets with impact adapters, and screwdrivers. Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle. Ability to pass required drug screening and bckgd checks. Additional Skills & Qualifications Journeyman card is preferred and demonstrates advanced trade proficiency. Experience working on industrial or pharmaceutical facilities is beneficial. Strong attention to detail and ability to deliver high-quality installations. Capability to work effectively in a fast-paced, schedule-driven construction environment. Solid communication skills and ability to coordinate with team members and site leadership. Comfort working at heights and in a variety of field conditions when installing rooftop units and duct systems. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based on an industrial project in Hilliard, Ohio, within a pharmaceutical facility environment. The typical workday starts at 6:00 a.m., with a schedule of approximately 10-hour shifts Monday through Thursday, 8 hours on Friday, and 6 hours on Saturday, providing significant overtime potential. Work takes place on an active construction site, involving rooftop work, duct installation, and equipment setting, often at heights and in varying weather conditions. You will use a range of hand tools and power tools, along with appropriate personal protective equipment, and you are expected to adhere strictly to OSHA safety standards and site-specific safety protocols. The environment is hands-on, collaborative, and production-focused, with an emphasis on safe, high-quality installations and maintaining an organized job site. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Columbus, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr.
