Industrial Millwright Build Your Career Maintaining Some of the Most Unique Mechanical Systems on the East Coast Florida Drawbridges (FDI) is seeking an experienced Industrial Millwright to join our Charleston maintenance team. This is not a typical industrial maintenance position. Our technicians maintain, repair, and troubleshoot the complex mechanical systems that operate movable bridges, including gearboxes, bearings, shafts, drive systems, hydraulic equipment, motors, and structural components. If you enjoy solving mechanical problems, working outdoors, and taking pride in keeping critical infrastructure operating safely, we'd like to hear from you. What You'll Do Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on movable bridge mechanical systems. Install, repair, and align bearings, shafts, couplings, reducers, gearboxes, and rotating equipment. Troubleshoot industrial mechanical systems and identify root causes of equipment failures. Repair and replace mechanical drive components and power transmission equipment. Perform precision alignment using dial indicators or laser alignment equipment. Maintain hydraulic systems, pumps, cylinders, and related equipment. Perform rigging and equipment replacement using proper lifting practices. Assist with welding, fabrication, and structural repairs. Work closely with electrical technicians during troubleshooting and equipment repairs. Respond to emergency maintenance calls on a rotating on-call schedule. Required Qualifications 5+ years of experience as an Industrial Millwright, Industrial Mechanic, or Heavy Industrial Maintenance Technician. Strong knowledge of industrial mechanical systems and rotating equipment.
Experience with:
Bearings Shafts Gearboxes Couplings Chains and sprockets Hydraulic systems Pumps Mechanical power transmission Experience performing machinery alignment and precision mechanical repairs. Ability to read mechanical drawings and equipment manuals. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and safely. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Preferred Qualifications Millwright certification or apprenticeship. Experience with cranes, marine equipment, movable bridges, lock systems, or heavy industrial machinery. Welding and fabrication experience. Rigging certification or significant rigging experience. Familiarity with OSHA safety requirements. Basic electrical troubleshooting experience.
