Full Job Description Overall Objective:
Diagnoses and repairs electrical, refrigerant, and mechanical problems on reefer units including PM maintenance. Thermo King or Carrier reefer experience preferred but able to work on all reefer units.
Reports Generated:
Must be able to complete accurate work orders, filled out with all pertinent information, so that the information can be entered into the EMS system
Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for all trailer refrigeration unit repairs, both preventative maintenance and service issues
  • General diagnostic and routine repairs including knowledge to make best value repair decisions
  • Ability to make repairs in accordance with established SOP, COE, and DOT guidelines
  • Thorough understanding of sensors, wiring, ECU's wiring schematics, and multi-temp systems
  • Advanced understanding of reefer electrical and mechanical systems
  • Able to diagnose complex mechanical, refrigerant, and electrical problems related to all reefer systems (single and multi-temp), including engine, cooling, heating and onboard computer modules
Requirements :
  • Must be able to work with little supervision
  • Must be able to prioritize work to insure business needs are met in relation to equipment availability
  • Must be able to work independently, and stay focused on the job assigned
  • Must be certified in refrigeration repair by Carrier or Thermo King, and be able to work on all refrigeration units
  • Must be able to work outdoors in various types of weather to accomplish job completion
  • Must possess strong trouble shooting skills to assess needed repairs
  • Must be able to identify potential warranty claims (repeated similar part failure, etc.) to insure that any warranty dollars can be collected
  • Must tag all parts for potential warranty collection with all pertinent information 2+ years of mechanical experience (reefer or diesel preferred) Experience diagnosing and repairing refrigeration and mechanical systems Experience performing preventive maintenance and inspections Basic electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Own basic mechanic tools Reliable with a strong work ethic and attention to safety EPA Section 608 Certification prefer
Education:
High School or Equivalent, Technical School preferred
Training or Skills Needed:
Verifiable certification in refrigeration repair with Carrier or Thermo King, at least 3 years of refrigeration repair experience, must have own tools
