Commercial HVAC Service Team Leader Position Overview MEP Contractors is seeking an experienced Commercial HVAC Service Team Leader to provide technical leadership, field support, and mentorship to our service technicians while delivering exceptional service to our customers. This position is ideal for a highly skilled technician who enjoys leading others, solving complex problems, and serving as the technical resource for a growing commercial service team. The Service Team Leader will work closely with technicians, customers, and management to ensure projects and service calls are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards of quality. This role is approximately 50% billable field time. Non billed time will involve training, customer service, sales, support, and other operational responsibilities. Key Responsibilities Field Leadership Lead and support HVAC service technicians in the diagnosis, repair, maintenance, and replacement of commercial HVAC equipment. Provide hands-on technical guidance, coaching, and mentoring to service technicians. Assist with technician training and development to improve technical capabilities and customer service skills. Promote a culture of safety, professionalism, accountability, and teamwork. Provide input on technician performance evaluations and development plans. Assist dispatch with technician assignments and call prioritization. Technical Operations Diagnose and repair complex commercial HVAC systems including rooftop units, split systems, chillers, boilers, pumps, cooling towers, VRF systems, and associated controls. Assist technicians with troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, and controls-related issues. Perform equipment startup, commissioning, testing, and operational verification. Interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, specifications, wiring diagrams, and sequences of operation. Perform refrigerant handling, brazing, electrical diagnostics, and system performance testing. Support projects, installation and construction efforts. Support building automation system (BAS) integration and troubleshooting efforts. Customer Service Serve as a direct company representative and trusted advisor to customers. Maintain strong customer relationships through professional communication and service delivery. Communicate repair recommendations, equipment conditions, and maintenance needs clearly and professionally. Assist in identifying repair, replacement, and maintenance agreement opportunities. Documentation & Administration Complete accurate service reports, work orders, inspection forms, and daily time entries. Document equipment conditions, repairs performed, recommendations, and labor hours. Maintain accurate inventory tracking for parts, materials, and equipment utilized. Ensure company paperwork and electronic reporting are completed accurately and on time. Review log sheets and paperwork for field staff. Confirm technical accuracy, completeness, and identify repair/replace opportunities. Safety & Compliance Follow all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and customer site-specific safety protocols. Conduct work in a safe and professional manner at all times. Assist in promoting and enforcing safety standards among service personnel. Participate in safety meetings and ongoing technical training programs. Qualifications Required 5+ years of commercial HVAC service experience. Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills. Experience servicing commercial HVAC equipment and controls. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings. EPA Certification. Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record. Strong communication, leadership, and customer service skills. Ability to work independently and lead field personnel when required. Preferred Leadership and/or supervisory experience Experience with chillers, cooling towers, boilers, pumps, and BAS systems. NATE Certification or equivalent industry certifications. Experience with government, healthcare, industrial, or institutional facilities. Familiarity with service management software such as Simpro, FieldEdge, or similar platforms.
