Summary:
The Refrigeration Technician will be responsible for the safe operation, monitoring, troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance of industrial refrigeration systems, including ammonia refrigeration equipment, chillers, freezers, compressors, condensers, pumps, fans, and related cooling systems. This position plays a key role in ensuring facility uptime, food safety compliance, and efficient plant operations. As a
Refrigeration Technician, You Will:
Monitor, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain industrial ammonia refrigeration systems and associated equipment. Perform preventative maintenance activities to improve system performance, reduce downtime, and control operating expenses. Inspect, service, and maintain compressors, condensers, pumps, fans, chillers, freezers, and cooling systems. Monitor refrigeration system performance and leak detection systems. Conduct required inspections, temperature monitoring, reporting, and compliance documentation. Troubleshoot refrigeration equipment and implement corrective actions. Optimize equipment settings and controls to improve system efficiency and energy savings. Maintain EPA compliance records and support Process Safety Management (PSM) programs. Order replacement parts and maintain adequate refrigerant inventory levels. Coordinate with outside contractors performing refrigeration and mechanical service work. Maintain refrigeration engine rooms and work areas in a clean and organized condition. Communicate system status, repairs, and maintenance activities with maintenance and operations teams. Respond to emergency service calls as required.
Qualifications:
Experience working with industrial ammonia refrigeration systems. Experience troubleshooting and repairing refrigeration equipment and controls. Knowledge of compressors, condensers, chillers, pumps, freezers, fans, and cooling systems. Understanding of preventative maintenance programs and refrigeration system optimization. Familiarity with EPA compliance requirements and refrigeration safety practices. Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration-related issues. Strong communication and documentation skills. Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented manufacturing environment.
Education:
Introduction to Ammonia Refrigeration Systems and Controls preferred. 2+ years of industrial refrigeration, maintenance, or related experience preferred. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
