Full-Time Position Summary The Refrigeration Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of refrigeration systems and related equipment throughout the company's grocery stores in Charlotte, NC. This position plays a critical role in maintaining proper temperatures, protecting perishable products, reducing equipment downtime, and ensuring a safe and efficient store environment. Essential Responsibilities Refrigeration Systems Maintain and repair commercial refrigeration systems, including walk-in coolers, walk-in freezers, reach-in coolers, display cases, meat cases, dairy cases, and other refrigerated equipment. Diagnose refrigeration system failures and determine the appropriate repairs. Troubleshoot compressors, condensers, evaporators, fans, thermostats, motors, valves, controls, and electrical components. Monitor and maintain proper temperatures for refrigerated and frozen products. Respond promptly to refrigeration emergencies and temperature-related issues. Perform refrigerant leak detection and repairs as required. Recover, evacuate, and recharge refrigerant in accordance with applicable regulations and company procedures. Maintain accurate records of repairs, refrigerant usage, equipment condition, and preventive maintenance. Preventive Maintenance Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on refrigeration equipment. Inspect equipment regularly to identify potential problems before they result in equipment failure. Clean and maintain condenser coils, evaporator coils, fans, drains, filters, and related components. Check electrical connections, motors, controls, and safety devices. Recommend replacement or upgrades when equipment is no longer operating efficiently. Store Maintenance Provide refrigeration support across all assigned grocery store locations. Coordinate with store managers and the Maintenance Coordinator regarding service requests and equipment issues. Respond to maintenance tickets and prioritize urgent refrigeration problems. Work with outside contractors and vendors when specialized repairs or services are required. Assist with HVAC and other mechanical maintenance when needed. Maintain a clean and safe work area after completing repairs. Safety & Compliance Follow all company safety policies and procedures. Follow EPA requirements and applicable regulations related to refrigerant handling. Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Properly handle tools, refrigerants, electrical components, and mechanical equipment. Report safety hazards, equipment failures, and potential compliance issues to management. Maintain required certifications and licenses applicable to the position. Qualifications Previous experience working with commercial refrigeration systems , preferably in grocery stores, supermarkets, restaurants, or other retail environments. Knowledge of refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems. Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot refrigeration equipment independently. Ability to read basic electrical diagrams and refrigeration schematics. EPA 608 certification preferred/required depending on assigned responsibilities. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Ability to travel between multiple grocery store locations in the Charlotte area. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency calls when necessary. Ability to lift equipment and materials and work in cold/freezing environments. Skills Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Mechanical and electrical aptitude. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Good communication and customer-service skills. Ability to prioritize multiple maintenance requests. Strong attention to detail. Ability to work effectively with store managers, employees, vendors, and contractors. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work in confined areas. Ability to work in refrigerated and freezer environments for extended periods. Ability to lift and carry tools, equipment, and materials. Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, ladders, and refrigeration equipment.
Reporting Structure Reports to:
Maintenance Coordinator Works closely with: Operations Management, Store Managers, Department Managers, and External Vendors/Contractors. Performance Expectations The Refrigeration Technician is expected to maintain reliable refrigeration systems, minimize equipment downtime, respond quickly to emergency service calls, complete preventive maintenance on schedule, and help ensure that all stores maintain proper temperatures and safe operating condition
Pay:
$20.00 - $35.00 per hour
